Miranda Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I am wondering whether to put my hobby of writing fanfics down on my CV/resume. I really enjoy writing them and it takes up quite a bit of my time, so surely its a valid interest? If I do put it on there, should I put what sort of fanfics I write and what series I write for? Anyone have the answer?
LAURZY! Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I put that i enjoy writing on my CV, didn't go into much detail but i dont see why you shouldn't, as you said, it's a valid interest
adellejefferiesxox Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I'm 18 and on my resume I put my interests were dancing, story writing and going to the beach lol.
thelonius Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I agree with Laurzy - I'd go with putting down writing as an interest. Fanfiction is very specific and putting down writing in general would appear more um...well-rounded? I'm not sure what the right word is!
Dan F Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I'd also say to go with just 'Writing' - CV's need to be concise and to the point so people can just glance over them - 'Writing' shows a good language skill
Cal Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I typed up my CV. But I got angry and deleted it.
thelonius Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 I typed up my CV. But I got angry and deleted it. I really hate doing CVs and it makes me angry too You either feel like you're so up-yourself or else it just looks flimsey and weak!
Skykat Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 I agree with Dan, definitely put writing because it's a valid interest and one that shows a degree of creativity and as Dan said language skill but CVs generally should be to the point with no elaboration, it should be a bare minimum, you elaborae if you get through to interview.
Miranda Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Thanks for your advice . I put: 'my interests are: writing, both creative and nonfiction' [then the other interests]. So I hope that sums it up. I also put what articles I've had published, but it is all under a small section 'Interests and Skills' so not too showy offy. I was a bit wary of putting that I write fanfiction anyway, cos to some interviewers that would say 'weirdo' due to all the weird stuff there is on the internet
