Totally agree, religion is a must in life, how could one live without religion? Nicole has certainly turnt out to be a 'good girl' since being smutten with Geoffrey.

I don't live with religion and my life is fine.

Life is now so much faster pace than it used to be with people now only interested in money and careers that theres simply no time left for religion.

I reckon that it will die out at some point because life has become way to different than when everyone used to go to church years ago and the trend can only grow.

I do think that geoff and Annie work very well as devout Christians and it reflects real life the way theres not many people like them in todays world.

Plenty of time left for religion! I'm not sure which religion you were in referral to, but if you take any of them - Jewish, Protestant, Catholic - there's hundreds of thousands of each, in followers - and I can assure you they won't "die out" anytime soon, if ever.

I do agree that religion needs to change slightly though, to adapt to the new society it's living in - which is very different to the society from when it was constructed, for example, I'm a Catholic but have full acceptance of homosexuality, and don't believe there should be a law against it in the Catholic religion. That said, I know some devout homosexuals so - go figure :P

I love Geoff & Annie in it because they show that people with strong faith are not 'freaks', and can lead perfectly 'normal' lives - I'll also disagree with you when you say that there aren't many people like them in today's world, again, I know of plenty - and am sure there are far far more than the few hundred I know - it's just it doesn't usually come up in conversation ;)

In my fanfic at the moment, I'm attempting to deal with recurring storylines of Annie being abused in school for having been homeschooled, and also for being religious - because it's how religious kids can get treated in school [been there, done that!] - although I do think H&A handled their 'arrival' into society excellently.

I'll stop rambling now :P

Ok when i said there arent many people like Annie & Geoff I mean that I dont know of any people who take their religion as seriously as they do.They take their religion to the max to be honest.Like when Cassie was diagnosed with HIV Geoff believed she deserved it because she did something bad.I wouldnt know of any people who would think like that.

Ok I take out my "will die out" comment , what I mean is that Christianity is not as popular as it once was.Years ago people in Ireland invested a lot in religion but I dont believe there is as much emphasis on religion as before.

I do agree Symphony about the thing about homosexuals and how the church should adapt itself althogh I cant see that happening any time soon. The church are against contraception as well isnt that right ?

I only enter a church when i need to like communions.confirmations, weddings and funerals. That being said , who does go EVERY sunday to mass ??

Most soaps do portray religious characters as either slightly loopy or obsessed tho so it would be nice if H&A struck a balance. :)

Reverend Hall anybody ?? :lol::P

I go to mass every Sunday, well, Saturday evening actually and I play the organ for the hymns. I love hearing people sing and help them with accompaniment. but I don't agree with all the Catholic Church teaches.

I started this topic and it has been great reading the replies - people expressing their views as they feel them.

I don't know many people who take their religion as seriously as Geoff and Annie, and without parents to support them. It would be good to see how the Geoff/Nicole and Annie/Jai relationships develop and whether their strong views cause problems for them.

Don't forget how many young Catholics gathered in Australia last year to meet the pope at that international gathering.

Keep your views coming, please

Catholics on the whole are against contraception I believe but not all Christians are. I'm a Christian and am from a denomination where we don't have the rituals or the 'spooky' Church (I find the traditional ones quite creepy myself) and the one I attend is not actually designed like a Church. Also in my denomination priests are allowed to marry, all the leaders of my Church are married and have children so I guess it depends on what 'path' of Christianity you look at. And were allowed to use contraception.

I don't agree with everything I sometimes hear Christians say and the teaching from the Bible which I follow mainly in my life is to "not judge others." I believe this includes not judging homosexuals.

A lot of people claim that religion is the cause for a lot of problems in the world but I don't think it's religions fault. Wherever you find a group of people there are bound to be eccentric individuals who take their beliefs (whether of a religious nature or just personal opinion) too far and cause harm to others. It is these individuals who need to be blamed, not religion as a whole. If it is followed how it was intended to be, no-one would have a problem with religion I don't think.

Ahh how frustrating, I just posted a message and it didn't save!

Sorry I probably confused things a bit. Catholicism is still part of Christianity. I get confused myself but my understanding of it is that Christianity forms two different "groups" as such; Catholics and Protestants. They both believe in the same God and have pretty much the same values overall but the main differences are just the way they worship and different 'morals.' For example, as mentioned above, most Catholics aren't allowed to use contraception and priests aren't allowed to marry but with Protestants they are. Sorry I'm not very good at explaining it and if I've got anything wrong people feel free to correct me!

Okay guys please dont laugh but what is the difference in being a Catholic and being a Christian ??

Being a Christian is about believing in the sacrifice that God's son Jesus made on our behalf so that the relationship between an individual and God would be restored. It's about the belief and faith and is therefore an intensely personal thing.

On an institutional level human beings have attempted to "organise" this individual belief system to group together the individuals that believe. One of these systems of "organisation" is Catholicism. Another is Protestantism which is divided into a number of sub organisations called denominations. Each organised religious group has developed its own set of rules and behaviours. eg. celibate priests ( or not!! )

As with most human organisations people join "organised religions" for a variety of reasons. Therefore some Catholics will be Christians some will not. The same with other organised religions.

As with all other discussions like this the above is "how I see it". Every individual has to decide what they personally believe ( or not!! ) and whether to join an "organised religion"
