H & A Needs To Move Into The 21st Century

I have watched Home and Away for years, but really feel that they need to move into the 21st Century. My main concern is with same sex relationships, the powers at be will not show any because they feel the audience who watch H & A are too young.

This is the most stupid thing that I have ever heard. They show numerous couples having underage sex, having affairs left right and centre. Belle is a perfect example, how may guys has she slept with, at least five and she is only about 18.

Also one of the worst things that I ever saw on H & A was when Kane and Kirsty got to-gether. He has raped her sister (even though they never said the R word) and then he gets to-gether with Kirsty and they become this golden couple. How twisted was this, its ok to rape someone as long as you fall in love with their sister.

H & A wants to be grown up, but unless someone takes a leap of faith, it will be a never ending cycle of falling in and out of love and affairs left right and centre.

It isn't necessarily because the audience is too young, but because the timeslot the show is in means that there are a lot of restrictions on what they can and can't show. For example there was the whole controversy over Dani's rape storyline, where the writers weren't allowed to actually use the word 'rape' in a show that went out so early in the evening. This meant that the storyline itself suffered and a lot of people felt that the producers shouldn't have bothered with it in the first place if they couldn't do it justice - which is probably why they're reluctant to tackle something like a gay relationship.

Which shows they are homophobic. Some of the bedroom scenes such as Angelo and Belles, and many others, have really surprised me for a 7pm slot and I'm no prude.

Back when Kane raped Dani, Home and Away was in a G timeslot, however it's now PG and they can broaden with what they can say and show. Neighbours have had a few gay storylines and they're still a G timeslot. However, on the gay storylines for H&A

there's meant to be a same sex kiss next year and rumors in the newspapers are saying it's Charlie

so I think the producers are taking small steps with this.

Gay storylines...I think it's good that there is actually a soap without a camp gay character lol. Anyway, they don't even have a main character who's black! I think Summer Bay would be a lot more multi cultural if it existed. But I like time warp HA regardless d:-)

I think the the dream Belle had about Aden is worse than saying 'rape'. Other soaps have gay characters and some of them are shown ealier than Home and Away. And recently I watched an old epsiode of Neighbours from around 2002/2003 and it said bitch or bitchy and I was suprised but I could never see that happening in Home and Away.

^^The dream Belle had about Aden was so tacky and at the same time so funny. It was like something out of a Mills & Boon novel. :P

In the early years - when the show first started in the 80's up until early 90's they always used the word bitch, Danni Minogue's character, Emma was renowned for calling pretty much every female character a bitch at some point. They also used the word rape...etc all this at G rating...but the show was much more ''adult'' back then.

I wouldn't want a token Gay character, a stereo typical camp guy. I also cant see how it would work unless they were to remain un romantic with anyone in the Bay. They could have a semi regular character like Fitzy or Julie etc who we know, and see them often, we see them with their partners and all that, but we never actually get to know them personally, therefore they wouldn't have to show kissing scenes...etc But then that isn't what people want..

If they were to have a permanent gay character they'd have to have permanent disabled and black characters to.You can bet all the descrimination groups would jump on it .I'm not saying they shouldn't have them but they should do it properly and not just for the sake of it.
