Whatever Happened to Colleen Smart aka Lyn Collingwood after Home and Away?

"Yoo hoo, only me", one of the most recognisable one-liners from the iconic soap.

After more than 25 years of coming and going from Summer Bay, Lyn Collingwood decided to leave Home and Away for good when she felt she’d reached “a certain age.” She said she’d especially miss working alongside Lynne McGranger and Ada Nicodemou, but the character fans loved or loathed still lives on in many memories.

Today, Lyn lives quietly in Sydney’s Inner West and remains as active as ever. A life member of the New Theatre, she organises monthly pub play readings, belongs to local historical societies in Glebe and Marrickville, and continues to campaign to preserve local heritage.

Despite online rumours suggesting she’d passed away, Lyn laughed them off in an interview with New Idea, saying, “No, I’m not dead. It’s going to happen one day, but not yet! I’ve been throwing back red wine, but I’m still here!”

These days, Lyn has stepped away from acting and focused her creative energy elsewhere. She recently wrote a fascinating history of her childhood suburb titled Dover Heights: Rocks and Sand They Couldn’t Sell. Over the years, she has also worked in research and as an editor for The Australian Encyclopaedia and several other publications.

From the small screen to the pages of Australian history, Lyn Collingwood continues to make her mark in a quieter, more personal way.
