lolajaney Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 If Christie wants to stay why can't they bring Laura back rather than bringing her back as Kirsty. Bring her in as a teacher or a lawyer or related to one of the bay's companies.
Slade Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 It's an idea but the problem is that it's not really plausible. The only reason Laura came to Summer Bay in the first place was because the Degroot's had discovered that she was not really their biological daughter. Laura only returned afterwards because the Sutherlands contacted her to be an organ donor for Kirsty's kidney failure and to help Kirsty cheat on one of her exams. As Kirsty had been on the run for three years it is unlikely that they had contact with each other and let's face it Kirsty only came back to the bay because Oliver was sick. Had it not been for that we would probably never have seen her again unless she decided to turn herself in of course. Add to that the fact that virtually all the Sutherlands are now back in the city and Laura has probably lived in the city all of her life. She also did her exams a year early and I'd imagine is clearly going places so what possible reason would she have to look for work in Summer Bay? I agree with you however that Kirsty never should have come back as I feel they are now slowly ruining the character.
lolajaney Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 no i mean that its unplanned, promotion, better job etc. maybe she works for a big company that comes to the city
TabbyCool Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 A big company might go to the city, they wouldn't go to a tiny seaside town like Summer Bay! Anyway, whilst some people may not be keen on Kirsty returning, who cares about Laura? She was in the show for all of 5 minutes, she didn't exactly have much of a fan base, it would be pretty pointless to bring her back. Kirsty has ties with people in the bay such as Irene, Alf and Leah, Laura has nothing to really link her with Summer Bay other than a brief storyline about her being Kirsty's twin.
alexx Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Yeah, she has no links, other than her twin sister living there!? The main problem I have with the whole Kirsty saga is that all the family stuff, as much as I disliked the Sutherlands, was missed out on her return - and considering family was a pretty big issue in Kirsty's life initially, I think we should have had a return of at least Shelly and or Rhys - OR a more detailed explanation as in terms of her contacting them again after being on the run.
lolajaney Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 big companies have had interest in the bay in the past like macklin and one in an upcoming storyline. for me its more of a way to come bk without the whole kane thing being discussed to death. quite like the josie thing or like a storyline with a girl in the 90s that had something to do with curtis.
claire_louise Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 I wouldn't see the point of bringing Laura back instead of Kirsty, but I'd definitely like to see her visit now that Kirsty's back. Like others have said, it's been a glaring error on the part of the writers that the Sutherlands haven't even had a mention since KK's return, but even if none of them want to come back the one person we know can easily pop up again is Laura!
ross_pirrelli_fan Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 The whole 'Laura' storyline really annoyed me. When kirsty and Jade first arrived in Summer Bay there was a huge deal made about how, as twins, kirsty and jade always knew what the other was thinking. like when they took a test at school and got exactly the same answers. they had the 'twin' intuition and knew when the other was in trouble. Seems they forgot that when they decided they weren't really twins after all! i really don't like kirsty at all. she was ok before, but now she's just irritating. i hate it when she does that stupid thing where she lowers her head and kind of lifts her eyebrows and does some stupid stare thing. wish she'd go away. ok, i'm done now. glad to get that off my chest
Tulip Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 The whole 'Laura' storyline really annoyed me. Seems they forgot that when they decided they weren't really twins after all! Would that be more of an emotional/psychological thing rather than an actual physical connection though? Hmm it is a shame that nothing has been mentioned of the Sutherlands. Why did Kirsty not question where Beth was? It's unlikely she would have heard of her death. Or the rest of the Hunters, for that matter! Something like that would have emphasized the fact that Kirsty had been gone for 3 years... I didn't really like the idea of Laura at the time, it just seemed such a pointless plot - only to provide Jade with an exit storyline. It would have been nice for the storyline to have provided a bit more of an insight into Kirsty's character, or served some purpose, and very true, she was barely again. I guess she was never really intended to be part of the family, she would never have really been considered as Kirsty's sister, but if she's going to be invented and the writers are going to demand a lot of faith from the viewers to believe the storyline, it could at least have been followed up.
Posy Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I'm surprised they don't make a bit more of the twin thing. When Mattie was living at Summer Bay House there was never a conversation between her and Miles about them both being twins. They could have explored the difference between Mattie growing up with Henry (before he disappeared never to be seen again) and Miles not seeing Sally for years. Now they have Kirsty and Miles living together - they are both twins, both with less than conventional relationships with their twins, and yet nothing has been mentioned.
