Summer Bay curiosities

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but does anyone think it's weird how everyone in summerbay act like they've known each other for years after meeting them for a few days.

It's like in the summerbay house, random people move in, ok they know each other, but still you don't invite people into your house to live with you unless you know them properly. Everyone acts so casual about it, like 'why don't you just come and live with us?!'

And it's like teachers and students have such a close relationship. I don't know about everyone else but if i went to my teachers house (for e.g- annie dropping into the sumerbay house, where miles lives) people would think it's suspicious.

Hmmmm, and also how close do everyone live to each other? I know summerbay is a small town, but it's like if someone goes to someone's house it takes a matter of what, 20 seconds?

And finally, everyone makes friends so easily! Like remeber with matilda and cassie they became 'best friends' within one day! The same goes for Annie and Ruby.

I love Home and Away to bits, and i know it's just tv, and summerbay is a small town, but if you compare it to reality it is unrealistic. What does everyone else think, or am i the only one thinking this way?

Some interesting points

I think the writers write it like that to show town unity, everyone is friends with one another and it is generally a friendly place to live

But I agree about the teachers/students bit, bar Aden, allow of the students are like best friends with the teachers <_<

The problem is Soap opera’s ARE unrealistic. If they reflected real life then they wouldn’t be very watchable. In regards to how people are around one another I don’t think it’s totally implausible the way people are acting it depends on the way of life. Obviously in a city like London most people generally keep themselves to themselves. However if you go to other places the locals tend to be a lot more receptive to people they don’t know.

It’s funny because Summer Bay is always portrayed as very nice place to live, sun, sea, sand and attractive people. But if you think about it, it’s actually quite dangerous place to live. Think of everything that’s happened over the past 20 years in such a small town, which in my opinion is defiantly unrealistic.

Ruby takes the biscuit though. A few weeks ago she said in regards to Aden checkered past something like "You know what he's like." How? You've been in the Bay about 5 minutes.

The thing about the teachers and students being friends might seem strange to some people, but at the end of the day, teachers are people too and if they live next door you'll probably get to know them. My brother was good friends with the son of one of his teachers and went to their house a lot, there was another teacher who had a daughter in my year, so her friends would have went to the teacher's house too. It's not like we live in a little village either, I live in a pretty large city. When I went to uni one of my tutors was the mother of my ex-boyfriend who I'd went out with at school. It's not that strange really, teachers are human like the rest of us!

I agree that just inviting random people to live with you is a bit strange though, I can't imagine living with most of the people I know, not even close family like my grandparents, my cousins or even my dad!

I love that aspect of the show, to be honest! It shows the flexibility of all the characters - like, Roman taking Aden on when he really didn't want to, but look how much it did for Aden the character to be brought into a somewhat 'normal' household.

Although, I do find the turn around that Melody has made very suspicious! That happened a little too quickly for my liking alright!

And, isn't Summer Bay actually huge IRL? Not a small wee town at all?

I think with Summer Bay House, it's suppoed to be a pretty open house anyway. Yes it is home for the family but being the base for the caravan park means that people will forever be dropping in, and also the way it was first intended with Pippa running it was to be a house for people to come and stay and be looked after. Sally always tried to carry that on and Miles is trying to as well. I guess it's just part of what the house is.....that it's open for people to be made welcome and to be given a home.
