Summerbay- stuck up and judgemental?

I used to love Leah and also be a pretty big fan of Rachel but having watched recent episodes they are so judmental and bitchy towards Jazz. Almost like she is beneath them or something. Like in todays Fiver episode Jazz was being genuinely nice to them and all they could do was snigger and bitch about her. Pardon her for suggesting that Leah would find another man, she probably would have been better of suggesting that she'd grow old and miserable alone. Ok so it was a little insensitive perhaps but the woman was drunk and it's not like she was trying to be malicious or anything.

Oh and she really shouldn't have had an opinion on the food should she because little miss perfect Leah had cooked it and everyone knows her food is perfect right?

What really got me is poor Jazz had just gotten her heartbroken and people basically couldn't careless but if it was someone else like Martha or Leah even who was in Jazz's shoes everyone would be acting completely concerned about them. Infact if I remember correctly Martha has been drunk quite a few times and people have been way nicer to her.

I just really hate these sides to Leah and Rachel, I actually hadn't realised what stuck up snobs they are before and having watched recent episodes of Home and Away I've realised that there aren't many people I really like except the oldies (Irene, Alf, Colleen, Morag), Aden,Ric, Jazz and Melody.

Oh and one more thing what's this whole thing about the 'Den' helping save kids? The drop in centre helped kids, the Den's just another place for them to hang out, play on the computer and bunk of school. Personally I preferred the old diner and the surf club. The Den doesn't really offer another dimension in the way that a drop in centre like the old one would have.

Did you paraphrase my old rants about that episode, or do we just have freakishly similar opinions :o!?

I was more angry at [Rachel] and Leah for being so catty about Jazz. She was drunk, but she was trying to be genuinely nice to them both. People often blurt out the truth when they're in that state, and Jazz might have been a bit insensitive but she didn't mean to be, and she was nothing but friendly and supportive of them both. That says to me that Jazz truly doesn't have anything against either of them and just wants to get along with them, but they're not interested. They're too good for her, because neither of them has ever been devastated and tried to write themselves off and then slapped someone while blind drunk, have they...? They deserve each other. Jazz is better than both of them combined times ten.

Jazz didn't bad mouth anyone. She was extremely friendly to everyone, but they were just too stuck up to accept her good intentions. All they saw was that she was drunk, and they didn't care that she'd only gotten that way because she was hurting and had nobody to care for her.

The worst thing she said was that the food was awful, and she said it to Leah, who Jazz didn't know had made the food. So then she apologised, but that wasn't good enough. Because obviously Jazz is supposed to like all foods and not have an opinion on them, and it couldn't possibly be Leah's fault that they were crap in the first place. No, that's just Jazz being a snarky cow about everything as always.

Then she said that she and Leah need to stick together because they're both single, and she said that Leah will find someone to be with sooner or later. Leah, who is still the world's most crotchety widow, decided that she would "knock her block off" for that, but Rachel shooed Jazz away before she had the chance. Clearly Jazz should have told Leah that she will never find love again and she will die alone. I'm sure that would have gone over a treat.

Good topic anyway :P

Ooops sorry  , It's just that Jazz happens to be one of the most interesting characters to hit the Bay for a long time, she's funny, interesting, actually has a personality that extends beyond 'I must be bland and fit in with people's expectations of me' and I just think she's a really sweet person so watching Leah, Rachel and the rest of the town be so judgemental towards her is just beyond annoying. Anyway good to know I'm not alone on that :) .

No I can see where you're coming from on that one as well. I remember that episode well. It's just that I have a weird unbreakable loyalty to Rachel so can not outwardly badmouth her. I think I'll just say I agree with you and leave it at that :D

There does seem to be a small margin for error in Summer Bay anyway. I remember not long after Lucas got absolutely trashed at Drew's eighteenth, Colleen saying that she hoped it wasn't the beginning of a downward spiral for the boy. Yes because everyone that gets drunk is immediately going to develop behavioural issues and emotional problems. Anyway, I think in this instance Jack did put her back in her place. But it is a common theme I find.

Having now watched the episode I'd like to say that Rachel did at least say she was sorry for Jazz but Leah...she's always had a low tolerance threshold where Jazz is concerned(yet she's best friends with Colleen?weird)but recently it really does seem to be a sort of subconscious jealousy, which doesn't really excuse it.

There is a very long history of Summer Bay collectively turning against someone and often someone who, unlike Jazz, is supposed to be a good friend to them all.Sam is the most recent example although that was more understandable than most.

And no, I can't really see the point of the Den either, it seems to be a little more than a glorified internet cafe rather than the New Drop-In Centre we were promised.I suppose now the surf club seems to have been turned into a licensed premises there was room for somewhere other than the Diner for da kids to hang out...except it's in the next room so it doesn't really provide that much variety.
