Storylines that might have been

I suspect that that some really great storyline opportunities never make it to the screen in the show for a variety of reasons.

We know that a potentially great storyline involving Cassie coping with a child while she was HIV positive had to be truncated because Sharni decided to leave. We know that potential storylines involving Rhys Sutherland and Beth Hunter never eventuated because a new Script Producer decided not to proceed with storylines planned by their predecessor. Sometimes a planned longer term relationship is cut short because one of the partners decides to end their contract prematurely leaving the writers nowhere to go with the remaining partner. ( I’m not a fan of recasting!! ) :P

Do you, like me, like to speculate what might have been?

What if writers/script producers etc. had not decided that Rhys Sutherland had to go? Where could that have taken the show?

What if Kirsty and Kane had remained in the Bay and Danni had been forced to deal with her rapist brother in law in the longer term?

What if the "writers/powers that be" had decided that Amy Mizzi’s hair colour didn’t matter and persisted with her as a permanent cast member? ( with or without Kim ) What part could she have played?

There must be other possibilities from other eras. I’m not a really long term watcher of the show.

I could see Kit having a role alongside Leah in the new Diner/Den. Her experience with alcohol and time on the street would have been useful background. I can see her developing a real relationship with Leah and the interaction between her and Belle might have been very volatile and interesting.

I’m not looking for a full scale script with lots of details just ideas for potential storylines.

Does anyone else have some ideas? I have a few more but I’m keeping them to myself until I see what else develops.

From memory of what I had read, if Coral had stayed on the show for longer then she was; Rhys and Beth were meant to have a baby... That would have been interesting seeing an older couple going through those events...

If the writters actually used Henry, it would have been good to see the relationship between him and Matilda continue. Now, it's just totally ignored and the show moves on as if Henry never existed.

What had always got me thinking. If Isabel and Jason were available during the Martha/Michael story and if they appeared on the show, I would have loved to see Tasha's reaction seeing her best friend date her rapist and the whole dealing with Ella as his child.

Also. If Bevan never killed Noah off, we wouldn't of had the exaggerated-bored-to-tears story of the paternity gate which appeared in 2005, Noah and Hayley would of most likely had a happy ending in Paris or she would have gotten pregnant or something... It would have been good if Hayley was pregnant for Noah and found out after he died. Just the story of a pregnant widower and going through the whole pregnancy and dealing with a baby would have been far more interesting then the dribble of Kim and Scott. Throw three boring characters together and you have yourself a very boring story.

Just to note one last one, I've always wanted to know what happened after K&K went on the run. They were on the run from the law, and Kirsty was pregnant. There was much speculation left after that like what happened with the baby, is it a boy, girl, twins etc. Was Kane ever caught, are they overseas...

I'm just glad that they're returning though because the questions I've had on my mind for the past 3 years should and most likely be answered.

Well I remember that Dani was supposed to be the centre of the stalker storyline instead of Sally but Tammin decided to leave.

I agree with you here.I also think that maybe if it'd been reversed it'd have been interesting. If Hayley had died instead of Noah he could've gone back to alcoholism and Kit could've helped him through it.I also think they could've explored his relationship with his mother a lot more then they did.

I'm sure i'll think of more later.

Noah's Ghost - could have kept haunting Hayley and or Kit forever. I don't know what that would have achieved exactly, but darn it, I liked him in black.

Henry - could have come out, tried and failed to hook up with Ric, then quietly wait around for Dean's arrival, thereby creating a much more interesting triangle between himself, Dean and Mattie. Mattie would have eventually bowed out knowing that it would be pointless to continue, and Dean and Henry would still be having their on again off again dramas to this day (guest starring Gareth, Diesel and others.)

Josie - stuck around for Tasha and Robbie with no need for any of them to ever leave... Possibly she could have fought Irene for Barry :)

Barry - see above^ Also I would have liked him to see his contempt of Rachel's relationship with Kim continue through to the wedding and to the breakup with a boastful round of unhelpful "I told you so"s while awaiting his murder trial which we actually would have seen and known the outcome of... ie, slap on the wrist, community service, all that nice clean soapy stuff...

Beth - stayed with Tony and actually DONE something rather than teaching us, "ladies, if you long for more than the cheating husband and litter of kids he gave to you, then you will DIE!!!! and no one will care because that's just what you get for being so selfish. Now get back into the kitchen, woman! How did you get out of your chains anyway!?" ... Been there for her kids when they needed them, just for a change... Maybe got it on the Barry action too. He has love enough for three :)

Kim - stuck around with Kit and Archie, redeemed himself, and not become a cliched excuse for everyone to hate the male species

Robbie - would currently be in the midst of an exciting All Saints crossover involving Dan Goldman as his long lost brother, switched at birth for Scott. And of course, continued to be plain adorable with Ella, and have some interesting moments with Uncle Kimmy...

Tasha - as said above, would have given JONAH'S return some kind of point.

Jonah - be taking care of Annie, Geoff, and Scruffy as per Grandpa Campbell's will, rather than running off into the great unknown and shirking all responsibility to a dying man's last wishes...

Lewis - not too fond of him, but if Rachel hadn't miscarried, it might have been nice for him to stick around and prove to Rachel that a baby will not solve all your problems

Charlie - he'd have mercifully killed Rachel by now and be working on Kit, but Kit is too wily for that and there'd be some fun fight scenes. Kim, like Belle, would have done the decent thing and told Charlie he loved him even if he didn't (but he totally would have) on account of how Kit had hospitalised Charlie (cause she's like that) and he might die if Kim didn't give him a reason to live... so sad, so sweet... I'd watch it.

Corey - ... I don't know and I don't care. Corey would just make everything better and you all know it. I would like to see him make good on his plans to finish his killing spree and take Martha along for the ride, whether she likes it or not -__-

Rocco - just a character who was cut down in his prime. I don't know whether he could have done anything more heartbreakingly beautiful than stabbing Sally, but jeepers I would have liked to see him try. Everyone's all about the Johnny love, and sure, he's great too... but Rocco... he just had so much potential.

Josh West - I don't know, but a part of me wants to believe that it was all a mistake somehow. That maybe Barry shot him, but didn't actually kill him, and he'll pop up some day down the track to bring in his own brand of callous city-boy mischief. He was the height of just-too-muchery.

Amanda, Peter, and Drew - I think I'd like to see them living as a family.

Dan - Well who knows. He was pushed so far to the sideline that his departure didn't matter that much in the end, but I would have liked for him to stay alive. Perhaps he could have agreed to a long-distance relationship with Leah. I'm sure that not everyone who's offered a job overseas decides to uproot their family from their own business and schools and such. It could have worked to have him go away and leave the door open for his return.

Claire - I would have liked her to come back from the city with Peter and for her to work the Stalker case with him instead of Tracey, and yes, to have become Eve's lover... Think how much cooler that would have been! First of all I wouldn't have had to deal with Tracey... *shudder*... and second, not only would Peter's work partner have turned on him, but his fiance/wife would be cheating on him with the enemy. Hmmmm... Where are those Stalker fic writers when I need them!? Of course if had happened that way, Peter wouldn't have "died." Claire would have died and we'd have SEEN IT! And Peter would have been mourning for her, rather than Dan mourning for Peter. But then what if it was all a zany undercover/witness protection scheme!? o_o The plot thickens... or, you know, would have... if any of it had happened...

Oh I didn't know Cassie was leaving, it would have been good for H&A to deal with the issue of HIV for longer but I don't like her anyway so I'm not bothered, lol.

Well I remember that Dani was supposed to be the centre of the stalker storyline instead of Sally but Tammin decided to leave.

Gosh I think Dani had been through enough!!

I would have liked to see more with Will and Gyspy once they finally tied the knot and to see hwo they coped as parents, you wait all that time for people to get together then they leave!

I would have liked to have seen a relationship between Matilda and her twin brother who she never even mentions now.

I suspected as much, it would have made way more sense. Zoe seemed to attack people unrelated to Sarah's death, all Sally did was get caught up in the seige - it should have been Dani, Kane and Kirsty, and Noah had he lived, but they were all gone by then. That being said, I liked Sally's involvement with the stalker storyline, and I think 2005 was the year she really became the central character of the show. I loved Dani, but she was almost like the main character in 2004, so it was probably better Tammin left when she did.

Gypsy and Will were one of my favourite couples. I would like to have seen them stay on in the Bay. It would have been really interesting to see how Will had gone about trying to keep Gypsy out of trouble. She was a great volatile character and life around her would never have been dull.

Wow, suddenly the stalker storyline almost makes sense. It did seem a bit odd that some woman came to town, found the one person she might actually want to get revenge on had left and decided to stick around and hassle a bunch of her neighbours, half of whom weren't even in the show at the time.

(Mind you, she's not the only one to have odd priorities.Sarah Lewis is given the choice of shooting the woman she's spent the last several months stalking or some bloke she's met a couple of times and which one does she choose?)
