Next update on the site.

DinerLandlord, if someone is offended by you stating you don't like a character, then it's more their problem than it is yours. For instance, this update includes Brad who I thought was dire and I can't say I was too enamoured with some of the top 10 either.

Thanks for backing me up, its just that I've received some fairly aggressive replies in the past when I've stated my hatred for J&M, both as a couple and as individuals.

Anyway, moving on. 36 - 49 has been the best bunch so far in my opinion. So many characters I absolutely love. I was delighted to see Sam place that high on the poll, I thought she'd be way further down. I didn't vote for her but I wish I had now. My love for the evil enchantress grew extensively since I cast my vote, if only I could turn back time.

Johnny and Rocco .

Shannon, Angel, Tam, Jazz, Pippa, Jules, Zoe :D.

Brad and Geoff, meh.

And as for Kane, I don't know. I want to hate him, but something won't let me. I guess I understand how Kirsty must have felt. I wouldn't go as far as marrying him though.

Chloe, Rocco and Angel have positioned already, so only two of the five I voted for who haven't shown up yet. I'm praying my other two make the top ten.

Try having a bad word to say about Sally and you'll know all about it! I dread to think she'll be voted top character and she probably will just because of the hype of her leaving the show.

I think all characters, both individuals and couples are there to be critiqued, and we should be able to express our view freely as long as we're following the rules of the board. The most popular characters like Sally, or J&M, arouse the strongest feelings in their fans, so they get defensive when people make negative statements about them. I think that's fine if the response is truly defensive of the character, but not if it is offensive to the poster, which I have experienced once or twice in the past.

I am pretty surprised at how high Barry Hyde is.. Equal with Peter Baker.. Thats quite something.

Something that is sometimes too evident is that some posters diss characters even when out of context, getting cheap jibes in, comparing all negative aspects of the show to their least favourite characters etc.. I think this can lead to antagonism as it is criticism for criticism's sake, rather than in the context of a discussion of a storyline or scene. That is something I don't approve of. A similar happening is when people go into appreciation threads just to slag characters off, knowing that it will serve no purpose but to antagonise the worshippers therein. It's just boldness really :(

Re. the latest chart, those in the 16-20 bracket are fairly on the money I'd say. I must have missed a lot of Barry when he was on as I don't really remember him with Irene all that much. I remember Collen's love potion she brought back from Italy was used by Robbie to get them back together, but I can't remember them being together before that. Shame. It sounds like I missed some good stuff.

Gypsy - was never a fan. I never do like the stroppy ones.

Amanda is well, Amanda  A bit of a pantomime villan really but you'd have to have a soft spot for her somewhere.

Peter was ace.

Robbie - no comment. He was one of my mute the sound, and/or fast forward characters.

It's funny, because even though these are the top 20 characters of H&A, I disliked them all except two. :P I never liked Barry, but I thought Ivar Kants did a good job with his character. I liked Robbie in 2004, but I gradually grew to dislike him. Gypsy was a character I had a love/hate relationship with growing up, but somehow the majority of my feelings for Gypsy were hate.

Anyway, I've just realised Lucas hasn't been shown yet. I like him, but it seems he is a character that is generally disliked. I'd be suprised if he made the top 10.

I actually loved this latest batch, 16-20, and I agree that all of them deserve to be as high up on the list as they are. It seems most of them didn't fulfill their potential on the show, which may explain why they are so high up despite having left a couple of years ago. I think Robbie was great as a character, but also the untapped potential for romance bromance between him and Kim has helped to keep his popularity up. Emmasi I'm looking at you!

Similarily between Barry and Irene the full potential of the relationship was never tapped. Not to mention the fact that he was extremely attractive for a man of his age. What is it about those Hyde men? I shudder to think what Archie Hyde will be like in 18 years!!!

Amanda and Gypsy were alike in some ways, scarlet women who were outcast from the Bay at times. I loved Gypsy so much. She was a breath of fresh air during the Justine/Tiegan/Joey/Aaron/James/No-Pippa/really boring years. She was what I wish Martha could be, totally dramatic and always compelling to watch. Amanda meanwhile was great, especially post-Josh and Graham. I loved the difference in 2006 between her and Leah, Sally and Rachel. They were the three "good" girls, and she was the one who was shunned. I'll always remember her skipping town after Josh's death, and not being invited to J&M's wedding, and being forced by Kit to leave Beth's memorial, as indicators of how everyone in the Bay really felt about her. I identify more with characters like that than I do with the more popular goodie-two-shoes characters. I guess that's why I love Sam and Jazz so much. They just feel so much more real to me.

And then there is Peter. He was the final of my 5 votes to appear on the poll. I loved Peter from the moment he arrived. He was just so attractive and mysterious when he first came to the Bay, questioning everyone about Felix's death, but not giving anything away about himself. I was sure he and Leah would get together until Dan showed up, and even though I loved Dan and Leah together, I still think she and Peter would have made a better match. I struggle to understand how such a wonderful man like Peter, and such an enchanting woman like Jazz could produce such a repulsive child like Drew. I think Peter should have asked for a paternity test, because I'm sure Drew was fathered by some ***hole who Jazz entertained herself with for a while. I wasn't crazy about Peter and Amanda together, just like I don't like Rachel and Tony together, but I guess I can settle for the fact that two characters I love are now happy.

P.S. Ryan, is there any chance that the characters on the poll could be listed in descending order as opposed to ascending order? That way we won't see people further up on the list before we see those futher down. Sorry, I don't mean to step on your toes. I'm just worried when it comes to the final few characters we'll see who has won before we see who has come in 5th, 4th, 3rd position etc.

I'll see what can be done, but I can assure you that you won't know who has reached (for example) 1st place before you know who's in 2nd place :D. The last five entries are usually uploaded to the main site separately (e.g 5th place on Monday, 4th place on Tuesday, 3rd place on Wednesday...you get the gist of it, I'm sure :P).

Ok thanks, sorry I didn't mean to be moaning or anything. Wait I thought it was Ryan who uploaded the MPC feature, or is it you my beloved bttb-rox? Gah I'm confuzzled!!!
