valli Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Argh, Martha is really annoying at the moment Why can't she just face the facts and get over it? If she's going to keep on going around in circles, then Jack should have stayed with Lisa Talking about Lisa, she isn't exactly the brightest person in the world, but it's better than Martha who's going around in circles all the time. Favourite part: “Ahh” he breathed; stretching out his stiffened limbs, “I could get used to this” he started, “wake up at a decent hour, have my breakfast all ready and made. A pretty girl ready and waiting to serve my every need…” he trailed off. “In fact, my laundries in there, you fancy doing that as well?” he asked, cheekily. “Ah, very funny” she smiled at him in amusement. Sitting back into his chair, a grin spread across his face, he felt content. He was finally able to enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere. It had been rather scarce of late, so the aura of this morning was a welcome occurrence… I just love the cheeky Jack More please!
vale4eva Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I'm not liking these chapters. I dont think the muses are coming to me Hopefully itll pick up soon, but I'm not really feeling much for these chapters Warning: Content not suitable for younger readers Enjoy Chapter 42: It was 6pm and Martha had successfully avoided Jack for the entire day; making trips to the university campus and then arranging to have dinner with her friends. The day was slowly drawing to a close however, so the prospect of running into Jack was looking increasingly inevitable. “I feel weird,” Lisa announced, as she scrunched up her face in discomfort. “What do you mean?” “I don’t know, I just … a part of me still can’t believe Uni’s over … It’s like, I spent the entire 3 years wanting to escape it, and now that’s its finally over, I don’t want to leave … what’s that all about?” she turned to her friend. Martha merely shrugged in response. “And why do I keep craving journals?” she began to laugh, before sighing. “I desperately need to get a life” she concluded. Martha chuckled at her comment, “Yeah. I think we could all do with that”. “Ugh!” groaned Lisa, “I blame Jack”. Quickly turning her head, Martha’s suspicious eyes looked at Lisa; her outburst of blame catching her attention. “Sorry” Lisa apologized, “I know he’s your brother and everything, but, I don’t know. I just feel like, if we hadn’t of broken up, I wouldn’t be feeling so depressed and lonely all of the time …” she sighed, “I guess I just miss him,” she sadly admitted. Martha felt a pang of guilt hit her body. Looking at the table, her head stooped downwards, she listened as her friend continued to rant… “I still feel like such an idiot you know … I can’t believe I actually thought it would work out. How deluded was I!” “Don’t be silly, you weren’t deluded,” she said softly. “I must have been … I’ve never fallen that hard for someone so quickly.” Martha couldn’t help but silently agree; she too had never fallen for someone quite as hard and as quickly as she fell for Jack. “It’s almost shocking …” Lisa shook her head and rolled her eyes as she thought back; the words just slipping from her lips. “god, I hate that I love him so much,” she added softly. Shuffling in her seat, Martha turned to her, a frown on her face, “you … you love him?” she whispered. “Unfortunately yes” she nodded slowly; staring into the air, almost in a trance, “well, I did … I’m not sure if I feel as strongly for him now, but … it still hurts” she turned to her. “I had no idea you felt that much for him. I mean I knew you cared for him, but …” her words trailed away. “Yeah well, these things happen” sighed Lisa; a little shrug of the shoulders accompanied her words. “But don’t tell him!” she quickly added, “I couldn’t stand the embarrassment”. “Its ok, I won’t” she forced a small smile “… I’m just … really sorry,” her words turned into a whisper. “Don’t worry about it; it’s not like it’s your fault”. Martha’s heart tore into shreds at Lisa’s final sentence. If only she knew that it really was all of her fault… How could she do this to her best friend!? …………………………… (6.45 pm) “Right, I better be off, lots to do and all that” Martha rose from her seat and grabbed her bag. “Yeah, ok” sighed Lisa; feeling a little down in the dumps. “Well it was nice catching up, I guess its going to be harder to see each other now there’s no Uni to keep us together, but, we’ll just have to make a conscious effort!” she announced. “Yeah, definitely!” Martha smiled in agreement. Reaching over she hugged her friend, before walking towards the exit. “Bye Irene!” she waved farewell to the red head. Approaching the doorway she was brought to a sudden halt. “There you are, I’ve been looking for you all afternoon,” said Jack with a slight huff, as he walked forward to face her. “Oh hey” she smiled; trying to force away her nerves, swallowing hard she continued, “yeah sorry, like I said, I had stuff to do,” she unconsciously played with the zip on her jacket; trying her best to fiddle away her growing tension, but it was no use, ever since they’re earlier conversation, Jack had this unnerving effect on her. “So” he began, “I just saw Tony, and strangely, he was as happy as Larry,” he stated; watching as Martha’s head fell in shame. “I guess it’s safe to say you didn’t bother telling him then” his tone and eyes portrayed sheer annoyance as he spoke to her. “Look Jack, I really have to go. I promised dad I’d have his book work done by the end of the night” she tried to get out of it; her eyes darting passed him, looking for a way to escape. “Don’t change the subject!” She sighed, “Ok, fine, I’m sorry I didn’t tell him. But I’ve been busy”. He shook his head at her, “don’t make excuses Martha, please”. “I’m not making excuses! And I’m not talking about this here!” she told him sternly through gritted teeth, “just deal with it ok!” she spat at him, before brushing passed him and walking out the door. Jack stood gob smacked as she vanished before his eyes. Standing in the doorway, he glanced around the diner, suddenly feeling awfully uncomfortable, as if everyone in the diner was looking at him. Noticing Lisa in the far background, he acknowledged her with an awkward smile. That was the first time since their breakup that they had seen each other. Thankfully, she didn’t ignore him. She smiled back sweetly, but she was unable to hide the look of sadness in her eyes as she looked at him. Despite feeling a huge amount of guilt, he forcefully brushed it aside. He didn’t have time to mull over his mistakes; after all, he was on a mission! And before the end of the night, he was determined to have the truth out, once and for all! …………………………………… She glanced at her watch, reading the time 7.20pm. It was still too early to go home, and she knew that if she did, she’d only end up running into someone she could currently do without. Continuing to sift through the paper work, she enjoyed the calm and silent atmosphere; thankful that the hustle and bustle of university life was far behind her now (touch wood)... Caught off guard, she placed her hand to her heart, her breath catching in her throat; startled at the unexpected sound of the door opening wide. Releasing the exhale that had hitched in her throat, she swallowed hard, looking at him as he stood proudly at the doorway, “What are you doing here?” she asked; a hint of irritation present as she spoke. “I’m here to help of course!” Jack exclaimed; a wide sarcastic grin spread across his face, “Lend a much needed hand and all that,” he said as he rolled his eyes; closing the door behind him. “Oh, well great, thanks!” she beamed, but he could sense she was annoyed with him. He glared at her as he watched her focus on her papers, clearly trying to ignore him. Taking a seat beside her he grabbed a spare file. All but two seconds later, and she had moved away from him; standing up and heading towards the cabinets. He rolled his eyes as he watched her walk away, “oh great” he couldn’t help but mutter, “Here we go again.” She frowned, turning back to him, “What?” He looked at her directly, “I’m starting to get the impression that we’ve stepped back in time … you know, with the whole I sit down, you stand up thing,” he told her, before taking an annoyed glance away from her. “What are you talking about? I just needed to get something out of the cabinet, that’s all” she lied. He sighed a loud exhale, “please don’t lie to me Martha, it really doesn’t work”. She huffed at him, slamming the cabinet drawer to an abrupt close, “Look, if you’re just going to sit there, trying to pick fights with me, then you may as well leave”. “And why would I leave when were both having so much fun” he grinned at her, before grinding his teeth together in irritation. She shook her head at him, “Jack I’m serious, I don’t want to keep arguing about this, I have work to do,” she told him firmly. “Fine then! How about we just don’t talk from now on” he suggested. “I’m sure we’ll get it done so much quicker”. “Great! Sounds good to me” she growled at him. Preview: From fighting to…? …crying? …Kissing? …More arguing? …Or all of the above?
