Would a DVD really be THAT complicated?

Well, we've all seen the official line on the Seven site saying they can't release classic episodes on DVD because of complicated actors rights, etc, but I'm wondering if there's more to it than that.

Recently there were two MASSIVE collections of classic Neighbours episodes. Plus the ENTIRE series of Prisoner is now out in a massive box set, and that show featured a lot more actors and a lot more seasons, but there didn't seem to be a problem. Then there's Sons and Daughters, A Country Practice, The Flying Doctors, all out in some form on DVD. The Neighbours and Prisoner discs were released by an outside company, Shock, so if they can do it, why not with Home and Away?

So, is there a more complicated reason when it comes to Home and Away? There was a "classic episodes" video released years back (Bobby's death, Roo and Frank's wedding, etc) so why the hold up now? Anyone have any ideas?

Hugs,

Jonathan

that's gay. What about all the people like me, who are in the position of the show being older than they are :( I've only been watching for about 5 years now. One summer afternoon, i decided to read all the anual summaries so i would understand who the hell people were talking about. But i think a DVD, just highlighting the best (and worst :P) things would be a great idea.

A DVD full of Ailsa vs. Roo would be worth the price of importing it to America from Oz!

Heck yeah! That sucks major! Why the hell can't we have dvds of H&A? (I'm a very passionate soul when I wanna be).

Even the highlights of the past 20 years would be great!

For example, I would like to see Leah and Vinnie's wedding included on there.

that sucks! even if it were difficult to push through, i know a great deal of people who would buy even a highlight episode set of say 25-35 important episodes or so

I'm 90% sure Leah and Vinnie's wedding episode is on the Weddings DvD that H&A released a few years ago...

I think they should release them on boxsets all the episodes. Or do a site where people can choose the episodes and they can buy them. They would make a fortune with everyone buying them. I have tons of tapes under my bed of home and away i would love to turn them into dvds. But sadly cant do that as its copying material. So they just going to waste really with the digital coming up you will no longer use video players, unless you have special soft ware. O well i guess its channel 7s loss but if neighbours can do it why not give us Home and away fans so dvds.

Here's a little more info I found, Channel 7 got into lots of trouble with the cast of Sons and Daughters for non-payment of royalties on overseas sales of the show, so unless these things are very carefully spelled out right from the beginning, Channel 7 would (naturally) be reluctant to have to worry about doing it all over again with the hundreds of actors who have appeared in H&A. Nowadays, DVD and Internet rights are built right into contracts...sadly not the case in 1988.

I do feel certain, though, that we'll get H&A on DVD SOMEDAY, the entire series of "Sons and Daughters" is supposedly coming out this year, Prisoner has already been released, we'll get Home and Away eventually.

Weren't Prisoner,Sons And Daughters, etc, weekly shows though?Rember HAA has been shown for 5 days a week 46[?]weeks a year for 20 years. It's going to be extremely expensive to bring it all to DVD.

Hopefully we will get a few good ones with births, deaths, etc, eventually though.
