Out of the Blue

Yeah I remember loving last week's episodes when they first aired on the BBC. Especially Friday's episode with the Gabby/Philby shock at the end. Stuff like that, that just completely throws you, is what the show does so well. It made me think that there could be a lot we don't know about Gabby, and the rest of the characters for that matter.

Samara Weaving does a great job as Kirsten I think. Her facial expressions are great because there's always that sense of a lot going on in her head, rather than her just being a 2-dimensional villain.

I remember next week's episodes being amazing too, so I'm looking forward to seeing them again!

It's great to re-live the show from the perspective of a new viewer through your posts Slade, so hope you keep them up! Same for the other new viewers in the thread. :)

“You flew half way across the world for one kiss…That must have been one hell of a kiss”. That detective cracks me up, as I said before he reminds me a bit of Columbo the way he keeps hassling everybody. I like the way when he discovers something else about somebody the tone in his voice changes.

I guess Gabsta liked good old Philby a lot more than she let on.

Interesting name for Kirsten’s new male friend Blade, considering that she’s the devil's child and Blade’s a vampire hunter.

Do you think as her name is Weaving, she is related to that actor Hugo Weaving? He's Australian isn't he?

Another thing I meant to say is, does anyone else think that Home and Away has become darker and more unexpected since the Out of the Blue actors [Daniel, Fletch, Nate, Mrs Connors] have joined? Maybe the HAA writers picked their brains for storylines.

Yeah I love it when Detective Wilson acts all incredulous over the various tales everyone tells him, usually when they've been caught out over something or other. Some elements of the whodunit could be tedious in the wrong hands, so Shane Withington was a great choice for the main detective role.

(Tiny spoiler)

I wish we'd seen more of his blonde colleague, Christine, though. As far as I can remember, she either made very few appearances or none at all after last night's episode.

Gabby burning the letters and seeming unhinged was just as creepy the second time around.

Good spot - I just found this on Wikipedia:

(Hugo) lives with his wife Katrina Greenwood and two children, Harry (b. 1989) and Holly (b. 1993). He has a brother, Simon Weaving who has two daughters, Samara Weaving and Morgan Weaving.

After Nathan’s post I was expecting immediate fireworks after last week but no worry it was still no less entertaining. I was actually glad things were calmer overall (relatively speaking). One of the most significant things over the last few days was Ray’s murder. I’m not sorry to see the back of him but because of the way events have run their course in this show I would probably have to say that he didn’t kill Philby. That would be too obvious. Regarding Ray the suspects who spring to mind are – Jarrod, Tess, Debra and Daniel but again those people are too obvious so I would imagine that it is someone else in the show who at the moment appears to have no connection whatsoever. I thought about the possibility of it being Jenny Wu but she would have been pretty stupid to return to OZ just for that.

I’m glad Addo and Staffo stuck up for Emily after she went and gambled the money away. Don’t get me wrong because I don't think she did the right thing and everybody’s reactions were completely understandable but it was just good to see loyalty especially from Addo. And I liked the fact that Staffo was more understandable because of the fake bid he made at the auction last week. Even before that scene when they first came to tell everybody about the money I could feel the anxiety from Addo especially when Zoe said “How’s your tummy?”. I think Addo and Emily make a really good team.

I actually really liked the scene with Becka and Kristen (earlier on in the week) after she rescued her from Blade. Kristen almost seemed…human. No, I’m sure she’s more misunderstood than actually bad and she did seem more likeable when she didn’t want Becka to go to the police as this could put her job and whole career at risk. Although she’s got serious problems brewing with Blade as he’s now in a position to blackmail her and I cast myself back to the line “You give him a cookie and he’ll ask for a glass of milk”. Even when she was deliberating with Kyle, Lucia and Kristen I kept saying just pick up the phone and call the police. It’s only going to come back and bite you.

:o Totally shocked at the end of the episode. Daniel and Lucia. Again that is something I never could have predicted for the simple reason up to that point I don’t ever recall seeing those two in a single scene together. What a good scene that was too. Beforehand although Daniel was clearly a good character he pretty much sucked personality wise. I found him very unlikeable. I really liked his relationship with Debra but there were no emotional scenes as such. He seemed more like a subordinate. Even when Philby died to me he didn’t seem bothered enough. I get that they didn’t see eye to eye but he just didn’t show enough genuine emotion. When he appeared to get annoyed with certain people (Staffo, Addo) regarding his brother’s murder, there always appeared to be an ulterior motive. In saying that he appeared to be a completely different person with Lucia. He seemed really warm, affectionate and for the first time very likeable. It was almost as if he was a completely unrecognisable from the person over the last couple of months. I really like that they have decided the explore another side of the character otherwise had he carried on the way he was he would have been very one dimensional indeed. And now my brain is going through all sorts. As Lucia mentioned, if he really cared about her as much as he said, why would he have run over her mother?. He would have surely known the effect that would have had on her. Also he said because she told him about Blade he had no choice but to bash him up but why do I get the feeling there is some thing else he is not telling her. For instance it wouldn’t surprise me if Blade is going to blackmail Becka for prescription drugs which would mean that he’s obviously is involved in crime and it’s no secret Daniel is well know to the police for his criminal activities so it is perfectly plausible that those two could have crossed paths before and possibly have some sort of history.

One last thing that has been playing at the back of my mind is what happened to those people that Addo owed money too? Even when Daniel scarred them off they said they would be back. And why has Daniel left Addo alone to his own devices?

Yes, Samara's uncle is Hugo Weaving... she's also just signed a guest contract for home and away, so we'll see her again on our screens soon!

Thanks for that news. :) I really thought she did a great job in OOTB so I'll definitely be tuning in to see her on H&A.

I hope that she and the other OOTB-ers realise how much of a cult following the show has/had. I'm still desperate for new eppys...

Slade: I remember being equally shocked by the Daniel and Lucia thing. They did have one scene together, when Wilson was questioning Lucia near the beach and Daniel told him to stop hassling her. It's easy to forget though, I only remember it because this is my second time watching the show and was interested to see them interacting that one time early on.

Glad I was right about Kirsten/ Samara and Uncle Hugo Weaving  Nice to see her following in his footsteps, he has certainly done some amazing roles e.g. Agent Smith in the Matrix; that elf in LOTR; also wasn't Hugo a drag queen in Priscilla Queen of the Desert? I will be pleased to see Samara in HAA, I love to see the OOTB actors in it.

I was not shocked about Daniel and Lucia. Right at the beginning when she had that 'arrangement' with Paul to pretend they were going out with each other to cover who they were really going out with. Obviously his dangerous liaison was with Gabby, but I suspected Lucia's might be Daniel.

Slade you are right to think there is more to come with all those situations you mention :D :D You lucky person.

Sorry to be misleading. What I meant was that the show in general was going to get very good. You'll see ;)
