Mistified Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Maybe I just haven't noticed before, but this year seems to have been flooded with guest characters, and a few more to come before year end it seems
alexx Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 I know I dont mind guest cast but the last few years its been insane, I’d love for the show to concentrate on the actual permanent cast they have, rather than bring in guest characters to take up all the screen time that could have been used on all the underused favourites, like Irene, Leah, Dan…etc
emmasi Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 I like guest antagonists, because I think it's sometimes better to have a villain that can blow in, mess the place up, and then leave just as abruptly as they came. It's the ones like Sam that I don't like. The ones that intergrate themselves into the Bay without ever really becoming mains, so you never know whether you should become attatched to them or not. With a villain, much as you hope and pray, there's a part of you that always knows that they'll be gone in far too short a time, and it will be over forever. There's a certain expectation and inherent acceptance. But I'm still getting over Jules. He was there, settling in, gaining my trust and confidence, and then he was gone. I coud rattle off half a dozen simalar names that I know people have foolishly gotten attatched to, only to be disappointed. That's not even to do with the storylines, I just think it's cruel to get the audience invested like that and then end it for no apparent reason.
-Andrew- Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 I like guest antagonists, because I think it's sometimes better to have a villain that can blow in, mess the place up, and then leave just as abruptly as they came. It's the ones like Sam that I don't like. The ones that intergrate themselves into the Bay without ever really becoming mains, so you never know whether you should become attatched to them or not. That is SO true, although I did instantly like Jazz, but thats why I couldn't like Lily or Hugh and why I cant get attatched to a certain bad girl in Aus episodes!
bttb-rox! Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I like guesties as they nearly always bring something new to the show and keep it fresh etc. But what I don't like, is the way they always seem to get more storylines than the existing characters. As I've said in other threads, Leah, Irene, Alf and Colleen, haven't had any storylines this year of real importance whereas a guestie comes in (with all their problems ), and gets a ton of storylines. If it was a bit more equally balanced it wouldn't be so bad, but seeing Irene, Leah and Colleen dishing out food in the Diner is not only a huge shame, but it's also wasting the talents of Lyn, Lynne and Ada. I can't say anything in here, but at least that will be changing for one of those characters soon . The guest characters this year have been fantastic all in all, even if there have been one too many! Hugh was a great addition and contributed to one of the best storylines this year IMO. Lily was a nice addition, as was Jules. Jazz is an 'interesting' addition and seems to be a very layered character. The one thing that I particulary love about Jazz is that, no one really understands her. They immediately think that she is up to no good....which is understandable, seeing as she is like Amanda, except with brunette hair . Alex is the only guestie this year that I haven't enjoyed seeing on screen. I've never been a fan of Alex, I don't find anything interesting about his character at all, to be honest . So bring on the guest characters, as long as they don't take over!!
dan Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Perhaps distracting us with guest cast is to wean us off the mains about to leave en masse? Allegedly, maybe, sometime, possibly .....etc
tyty0932 Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 ive never really been a fan of guest characters in tv shows with several exceptions it seems like all they do is take up valuable screen time from better story lines what really makes me mad is when you are bombarded but a whole slew of guests at once in my opinion, guest characters should be few and far between
Jayde Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 I agree that we've been having way too many Guesties this year; and that they've been taking over. Even though they've contributed to some good storylines, I haven't enjoyed this Season much because of all the Guest characters. We haven't seen Leah, Dan, Irene, Colleen, and Alf in action for ages and they really deserve a juicy storyline of their own. Guest characters are generally alright but I don't think they've had enough time to develop, so we can't get to know them. I hope this year isn't as disappointing...
Anaya Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I think there have been too many guest characters in the 2007 season... hope this doesn't ring true for the new season! I don't mind guest characters on the show and some have been good additions like Hugh, Jules, Tam, Jazz, Michael etc. and i wish some of these were to return someday. Guesties should be introduced to add to a permanent character's storyline... they should be there for support not actually have more to do than some of the main characters! Characters like Dan, Leah, Irene etc. have been majorly neglected to the point where they could be seen as mere extras who get a few lines once in a while! These are the characters you care about not someone who has barely been in it 5 minutes!
buttercup Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 I don't mind Guest characters but I got really annoyed when Lilly, Jules and Huge left they were really good characters. and I think Huge and Rachael belong together
