Give Irene a decent storyline!

The way Irene has been treated over the past number of years has been appalling in regard to her role on the show and storylines.I personally think the writers dont be feeling well because every chance they get they like to shove Martha and Jack down our throats forcefully. Its getting a little tiresome at this stage and I feel all the characters should be given equal screen time.Especially the older cast members dont ever get a look in.

Irene rocks, she was fantastic in the poisoning and then they did the dirty on her with Martha. I used to love all those Beach House scenes with the Smiths. Nobody, and I mean nobody, does raw emotion like Irene when it comes to her kids. She also does comedy and fun like a dream as well. Please somebody just look at all of that old stuff like alex suggests and think about it, it's not rocket science, and then give us more Irene Purleeeease.

We desperately need to see some Irene action soon. The KK stuff was good while it lasted, but she's fallen back again into serving burgers and milkshakes in the Diner. She's got Belle, Annie and Geoff under her roof and yet we see very little of her actually looking after them, talking to them and just generally doing the things she used to in the days of Will, Hayley and Nick, for example. Guest characters get more screentime than she gets at the moment! I'm eagerly awaiting the storyline she's going to get at the end of the year, though it's difficult to stay patient when such a wonderful character is going to waste.

I agree with you, there are so many different routes they could go down with Irene and Belle/Geoff/Annie but the writers refuse too :(

Totally with you on this one bttb-rox, I am getting very impatient. And you are so right about the guests as well. I'd rather they spent there money on fewer guests and gave us more Irene.

^ We should start a 'Give Irene a decent storyline' fanclub and travel around the world :P.

It's just such a shame that a popular and much-loved character like Irene is being sidelined so much and for so long. I mean, if she'd been storyline-less for a couple of months, that would've been bad. But we're talking years now. The last 'proper' story that was solely based on her was in 2005 - the Corey saga. Since then, it's like she doesn't even exist. I love the writers and think they're extremely talented people, but the way they've treated Irene has been criminal. Anyway, I'm going to stop moaning now and be thankful that she will get a good storyline later on in the year :D.

Whatever happened to Irene being at uni for studying to be a teacher or something?

Did something happen and she left, or the writters just forgot about that?

Come on writers give Irene a toyboy!!Maybe Roman or Angelo??I think Irene should propably revert back to her ways and become an alcoholic again that would be interesting.Another storyline I think Irene would pull off beautifully would be a cancer storyline. She is a brilliant actress when given the chance.Back when Dan died she had a scene where she was talkng to Drew and Belle she was very emotional which was very touching.

I don't want her back on the grog as that would take her backwards not forwards, they have also done the younger man thing so they don't need to go there again. I agree with the bareens that Barry would be a good bet as there is unfinished business and plenty of potential to take things forward and also agree that Lynne is totally fantastic when it comes to emotional story lines.

 We do know a good thing when we see it, and there is a great deal of unfinished business there, and great deal of business which still to be started me thinks

I also think that were Irene to return to drinking it would be a retrograde step and would undo all the character development that has so far been done. It would be a slap in the face for what has gone before and I would not like to see that at all. Challenges and temptations can take many forms and Irene can face those, but not alcohol. Lynne is more than capable of portraying a wide range of emotions as well as putting in outstanding comedy performances, so the scope for the writers is enormous. I just wish they would use it. I have never understood why they don't.
