I recently sent an email to five asking why they are talking the show off on bank holidays and will we be taking a Christmas break to avoid get too close to the Australian transmissions of the show and this was the reply that I recieved.

Dear Cam

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Home And Away.

One of the terms of our contract for this series state that we must stay behind Australian transmissions. As the programme takes a break over the Christmas holidays in Australia and we do not, we have decided not to broadcast any episodes on bank holidays to ensure that we continue to remain behind their transmissions.

We have no current plans to postpone broadcasting the programme over the Christmas holiday season, apart from the various bank holidays that fall within this period.

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in Five.

Yours sincerely

I think I would rather have a break over Christmas than several Bank Holidays over the year..

For one thing it would keep the episodes in sync..Monday's being on a Monday and Friday's on a Friday.

I think after this break, Friday's cliffhanger is actually going to be on Tuesday's now.

But at least they are taking action now before it goes to far and they take it off for a longer amount of time.

Thanks for sharing the email with us Cam :D. I've always been quite undecided on whether I would prefer for the episodes not to be shown over the winter break or not be shown on bank holidays to be honest. It is nice when the episodes are in sync like you said Reo, so it is a bit annoying <_<. At least we know either way :P.

On quite a few occasions though, Five Life have made up for not showing any new episodes by putting on loads of old ones instead! Next Monday they are showing seven :o Sally and Flynn episodes.

Obviously they are still airing episodes over Xmas, but it probably means that we won't get new episodes on the following

CHRISTMAS EVE

CHRISTMAS DAY

BOXING DAY

NEW YEAR'S EVE

NEW YEAR'S DAY

And to be honest, I can think of several other things I'd rather be doing than watching Home and Away on these days...

Shame it's not in sync though. :(

I guess it was always likely that Five would start taking breaks sooner or later. As we are only 11 weeks behind with episodes now it makes sense to take breaks as otherwise they will run out of episodes to screen.
