Putting aside the the fact that Five are pumping so much money into H&A and the difference in ratings between RTE & Five it is still some joke that the State Broadcaster of a country (albeit a small one) is being treated this way by a little watched TV station in another completely unrelated country.

I had no idea that back in 2000 ireland were only like 2 episodes behind oz!!

I'd love if that was the case now!!

I understand that the whole rte vs ch 5 thing is to do with money which is soooooo unfair!!

however(and feel free to correct me if im wrong) but rte receive all the money that we in Ireland pay on our tv licences. In the uk this is the same case 4 the bbc. this is why the bbc don't have any adverts as they don't need the money seeing as they get all the money from tv licences. This means that rte get all the tv licence money AND money paid to them by companies 4 showing their adverts. therefore rte must be worth a small fortune, so if what they said in there reply is true about how home and away is so important to them, why cant they just put more money forward and get things back the way they used to be???????:huh:

It just seems like we're gonna fall further and further behind the australian and uk episodes!! :(

Yes but there is a big difference in the money the BBC gets from the licences fees from a population of over around 60 million & what RTE gets from a population of just over 4 million. It just wont be enough to run RTE, that being said RTE have less & shorter ad breaks then all the other commercial stations.

RTE put heaps of money into shows like Desperate Housewives, which is only on a few months of the year and will probaby be axed in two or three years time. So, why not put the money into a show like H&A which is on all year around and isnt going anywhere.

Yeah and I believe here in RTE we have the European premiere of Desperate Housewives !!

They should maybe try fight Five for the rights to H&A to air it first before them. We must be around a week behind now

I dont really care who shows it first to be honest, that doesn't make a difference to me, I just dont like the idea of RTE not being able to show it just because Five are taking a break.

And I have to say it is ridicolous how Home and Away & Neighbours are never promoted on RTE. Us Irish viewers have been nothing but loyal to the show. I think we watch it more than any other country dont we? (I know the UK has more figures, but out of our smaller population, more people watch it in Ireland than the UK isint it? Sorry if I'm not making any sense.)

Its about time RTE stepped up a notch and began promoting two long running shows that have been so important to the channel since they began airing them.

Yeah I agree , its not the fact that Five show it first its the fact that Five are being a**eholes about it !!

RTE had H&A first for years and years until Five outbid them , I would have thought Seven would have remained loyal to RTE

Just to correct the article (I don't know if this has already been mentioned - not too keen on reading through 9 pages to find out) but New Zealand is the first country behind Australia, not the UK. It has been this way for ages until UK overtook us earlier this year. Now, we've overtaken them just this past week.

I know this is an old thread but when you think about it who has more economic power? Ireland or the UK? I do believe it's the UK.
