RTE(Ireland) not happy with interfering Channel 5(UK)

Also, five need to do more as well, the figures for HAA when in was aired on ITV were almost 10million, now just 1 or 2 million - you would think five would advertise and promote it more considering the amount they are paying for it! Maybe they could advertise on other channels, like channel four did with hollyoaks - to reach a bigger audience than on their own channel.

Five promotes H&A much more than any other channel promotes their soaps, but I suppose the H&A adverts are never as repetative as the adverts they show for that awful 'cooking the books' (you know the one with the paper food and M&S music?) They've shown that a million times!!!

Five repeats its promotion videos so it may be more promotion than other soaps but I would prefer to watch different promotions now and again like Eastenders rather than having to watch the same thing over and over again.

If five had sevens promos at the end of the eps it think would be great! Can they not buy them or something???

Where on earth did you get your figures from?

Over 8 million on ITV - 1 to 2 million on five (6pm showing only - dont think 12.00pm showing would get a high rating) - so that where I got my figures from - I dunno if they are entirely accurate, but you would have to ask barb about that!

ITV combines the two showings per day - five is just 6pm only and considering 1.6 mil is at 6.00pm, 12.00pm showing would realistically get far less that that maybe 700,000 - so total figures just over 2mil? Would that be a realistic guess?

Anyway sorry to get off topic! - I agree with the RTE thing, no other channel from another country should have the authority to dictate when or when not to show HAA on a seperate network in a seperate country, its not right in my opinion!

GET OVER IT PEOPLE SO WHAT IF RTE ARE 2 EPISODES BEHIND OR WHAT BOTH ENGLAND AND IRELAND ARE 2-2.5 MONTHS BEHIND AUSTRALIA SO I THINK RTE VIEWERS CAN WAIT ANOTHER 2 DAYS WHEN THEY'VE HAD TO WAIT THAT LONG ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We didn't mind waiting that two months. What we mind is channel 5 having a say of how far we are behind :P

We should fight it! If we got our country back from England then we can sure as hell get the European Premiere Rights to H&A back too! :P

Settle down people. :P

Stop this UK -v- ROI business. That was sorted out in 1916. Lets move on.

I don't think others are seeing the reason of why we are discussing this. We don't care that we are 2 days behind the UK. We wouldn't care if we were 2 years behind the UK. It's the fact that we are being told when to air the episodes which annoys us.

And no, this thread is not sad. It's valid discussion on a current issue involving the airing of the show in this country. What's sad is the fact that people don't understand where we are coming from. Is it really that hard to make sense of?

Narrowing the arguement down in the most childlike manner......................Five had a new toy to play with, it spent a lot of money on it but RTE got to play with it first, despite spending practically nothing. Wouldn't you be a tad peeved? :P

I'll ignore this sweeping statement and move back on topic...

Just something that occurred to me while reading through everyone's posts: while I agree that it's sad that we're no longer just slightly behind Australia like we once were (I've refrained from using the word 'unfair' because Five have paid a considerable amount of money), part of the reason why Five are getting annoyed (despite several forum members insistence that UK/Ireland Five/RTE are 2 difference countries/channels) is because in Northern Ireland, the vast majority of viewers with a decent enough TV reception can receive BOTH Five and RTE. This gives the viewer choice, the viewer can choose to view H&A on Five or RTE. Now, completely ignoring any pro-Nationalist opinions, the simple political fact is that Northern Ireland is part of the UK and Five have bought the rights to screen H&A in the UK. This right is violated firstly by viewers receiving RTE (unavoidable), so naturally Five are going to protect their assets, but they have to learn to deal with this violation. So imagine then if RTE is screening episodes ahead of Five. Obviously the viewer will choose to watch H&A on RTE. This is completely unfair on Five and therefore, despite my grievances, I believe Five are right to protect their asset.
