That's a good point Ryan. And it probably doesn't get them to start watching long-term. But if I see a promo for Eastenders or Fair City and it has death, drama and blood, then I'll watch that episode and the aftermath.

ter06, yes it can get a rise for one or two days, but not long term. What was this years average Home and Away viwers in Australia. 1.3 million. 2006 - 1.3 million. Home and Away has 1.3million viewers and has for years. The majority of those stay the same from year to 100,000-200,000 are probably new viewers replacing 100,000-200,000 viewers who have left. The other 15 million or so of Home and Away watching age must know what the show and whilst a death might drag some in for a few days they'll soon realise they are not interested anymore when Ric and Belle go abseiling or Annie finds an injured cow.

RTE have said they are going to broadcast the same daily episode as Five are. Not sure when this is happening!

The end credits where always shown by RTE and in full as per the original Australian edit, as was the show itself uncut. Granted when that stupid "ID/TTV" was on air, after the final scene it would cut back to Laura Woods and the credits would roll on a huge Plasma in the background while she spoke some rubbish.

I think as Home and Away is now receiving sponsorship on RTE, they can't cut back to "ID/TTV" in the studio and run the credits in the background.....It is policy that if a show has a sponsor they must screen it in it's entirety without interruption.

It's also good to know that with Neighbours on RTE, the show is also UNCUT and we get the FULL AUSTRALIAN closing credits, not like the BBC's version, where they have a 35 second closing version!

Thats one thing I must credit RTE on, they dont take the scissors out to these 2 shows!!!

Actually The BBC don't edit any of the actual episode all they do is edit the closing credits to comply with their guidelines which state that credits can be no longer than 30-35 seconds

I do recall when Seven kept on and on promoting the the stalker storyline of 2005, rating where around the 2million region in oz. The norm is 1million to 1.4million per episode. It just shows what a bit of promotion can do. The 2006 stalker return however didnt actaully achieve that (for obivious reasons!) Its just like you wont get the same ratings night after night after night - its just what interests the viewer, and by promoting the show, then maybe rating would gradually increase, espically in Ireland on RTE. Also, five need to do more as well, the figures for HAA when in was aired on ITV were almost 10million, now just 1 or 2 million - you would think five would advertise and promote it more considering the amount they are paying for it! Maybe they could advertise on other channels, like channel four did with hollyoaks - to reach a bigger audience than on their own channel.

Five promotes H&A much more than any other channel promotes their soaps, but I suppose the H&A adverts are never as repetative as the adverts they show for that awful 'cooking the books' (you know the one with the paper food and M&S music?) They've shown that a million times!!!

Where on earth did you get your figures from?

I dont know if you conbine the the two showings per day, but i didnt only the 6.00pm episode.....as its the new episode for that day - 1.66 million for last monday

BARB Website....

17 HOME AND AWAY (TUE 1300/1713) 8.08

18 HOME AND AWAY (MON 1301/1713) 8.06

Over 8 million on ITV - 1 to 2 million on five (6pm showing only - dont think 12.00pm showing would get a high rating) - so that where I got my figures from - I dunno if they are entirely accurate, but you would have to ask barb about that!

ITV combines the two showings per day - five is just 6pm only and considering 1.6 mil is at 6.00pm, 12.00pm showing would realistically get far less that that maybe 700,000 - so total figures just over 2mil? Would that be a realistic guess?

Anyway sorry to get off topic! - I agree with the RTE thing, no other channel from another country should have the authority to dictate when or when not to show HAA on a seperate network in a seperate country, its not right in my opinion!

It's not just H&A's ratings that dropped though. Nowadays Corrie is lucky to get 10million. All ratings dropped iwth the advent of digital TV, there is just so many channells to chose from.
