RTE(Ireland) not happy with interfering Channel 5(UK)

Yes legalities do come into RTE being unable to screen episodes before Five. But they do not come into my right to find the situation annoying. That's all I was saying. Because it seems certain people don't think we have the right to post about something we find annoying, simply because its a topic that doesn't matter to them.

Nothing to do with legalities or the rights of Five. RTE or any other company. But apparantly it's not THAT big a deal because "it's just a televsion show."

Remind me... what's this forum for? Oh that's right. It's FOR that television show. I could kind of understand your frustration if this was some kind of general forum for debating world affairs and politics, but it's not. It's an ickle little forum for discussing a TV show which I like. And I find it annoying that I'm forced to view episodes of that TV show 2 months later than I could view them in the past.

And I find it even more annoying that people are belittling an opinion I have about Home and Away, posted on a Home and Away forum, because there are more important things going on in the world. Perhaps Foxy would like to direct me to a forum where more important things are being discussed and I'll happily stop bothering you all with my thoughts on H&A.

Again where is this belittling coming from? Just because I'm posting a contrary opinion? I never even said "it's just a television show" so I don't know where you've pulled that from. ETA: Okay I see where that was posted by someone else in a vague way but it still doesn't mean people can't oppose your view.

As I've already said aussie_bum asked for people's opinions and I gave mine. It has no bearing on your right to feel the way you do and I never said it did. Post what you like. I doubt anyone's really trying to stop you having your say.

I remember the good old days of around 1991 when I first got RTE in Belfast. It was a grainy signal but the best part was watching Home and Away a good four months or so ahead of ITV. As time went on, the gap narrowed, but the extra bonus was that while ITV cut the show to ribbons (e.g. the stunning 1996 finale), RTE showed it intact with the full closing credits. In those days had ITV been a few episodes ahead, I think I still would have watched on RTE.

These days, Five does treat the show a lot better than ITV ever did. It gets occasional promotion, end credits, a better timeslot (though not as good as RTE's), and a lot less editing. I now watch the show on Five, mainly because it now airs there first. Also, while I can't fault RTE One's presentation, RTE Two started bundling H&A (and Neighbours) in their teen strand ID or TTV or whatever they call it these days. From what I've seen, it comes with two DOGs (on screen logos) and they pretty much cut out the end credits. So actually the presentation of the show is now better on Five than on RTE. However, with RTE, it's guaranteed to be uncut.

It is disappointing that RTE no longer can air the series first. They were able to do this for all of ITV's run, except for the last episode which ITV ever aired, which was on months before RTE, due to its enforced break at the time. However it's more of an issue how far they are behind they are now. While technically Five could air the series the same night as Seven, it's better for them to keep a small gap so they don't need to go off air for weeks over Christmas. This is understandable as winter in the UK draws the biggest TV audiences (which is precisely what a commercial broadcaster is in business for). Dropping the show over Bank Holidays is fine by me. One day lost here and there is better than several weeks without.

Also, due to the year-long gap enforced by ITV, Five really couldn't be much closer than they are now - unless they'd shown more than five episodes a week. They will eventually need to take even longer breaks in years to come, so if nothing else, at least it gets viewers used again to the fact they can't see the show 5 days a week all year round.

I would like to see Five close the gap to a week or two in January and obviously the gap would have to widen as the year went on. Eventually we can probably expect them to air the show 4 days a week for a few months in the year as they will need to drop the full 6 weeks of episodes over the year - or else negotiate for the production breaks to be shorter. RTE will no doubt "catch up" as Five do, but remain an episode or two behind, as this seems to be the current agreement.

RTE have said they are going to broadcast the same daily episode as Five are. Not sure when this is happening!

The end credits where always shown by RTE and in full as per the original Australian edit, as was the show itself uncut. Granted when that stupid "ID/TTV" was on air, after the final scene it would cut back to Laura Woods and the credits would roll on a huge Plasma in the background while she spoke some rubbish.

I think as Home and Away is now receiving sponsorship on RTE, they can't cut back to "ID/TTV" in the studio and run the credits in the background.....It is policy that if a show has a sponsor they must screen it in it's entirety without interruption.

It's also good to know that with Neighbours on RTE, the show is also UNCUT and we get the FULL AUSTRALIAN closing credits, not like the BBC's version, where they have a 35 second closing version!

Thats one thing I must credit RTE on, they dont take the scissors out to these 2 shows!!!
