How Do You Think The Characters Have Changed This Season?

This is gonna be a long post!!! :D

Kim One thing that hasn't changed is his age...it seems as though he's been 19 forever. Getting together with Rachel seemed to change him from being an arrogant and selfish prat to a some what more mature person. (It came at the cost of his friendship with Robbie and Tasha.) Since the return of Kit we've seen that Kim is still the same arrogant and selfish prat that he has always been.

Kit Someone that used to be unique, interesting and fun. Carrying Kim's child seems to have turned her into a selfish home wrecker. (It goes to show that it's Kim's fault :P)

Matilda She's become more of an interesting character. Has grown up a lot. Would rather see her with Ric any day than with Luc.

Leah She never used to shut up...now she hardly talks!!!

Dan He hardly has a decent storyline these days...he's just there!!! Even for "Peter's death"/Drew's arrival/Peter's return he was just there. It's not as if the storylines revolved around his character. However he has been more of a father figure for Drew than Peter, so I guess that's better than nothing.

Amanda She has gone from being the Bay's vixen to the Bay's dummy!!! She has shown that she really does love Belle...and she reminds Belle (and us) evertime she screws up!!! The fling with Drew shouldn't have happened full stop and I blame her for the lovesick detective that never seems to be able to do his job...then again his detective skills weren't the greatest to begin with. And then Kelli arrived!!! Considering everything Amanda has done in the past, she of all people should be able to work out that she is being taken for a ride. It's about time she woke up!

Peter I was so sad when he "died". Then he came back from the dead and boy was i looking forward to some really exciting storylines that involved that gun holster minus a stalker. I also hoped for some decent father/son bonding. I waited...and waited...and am still waiting...knowing that it will never come. It was "interesting" to see a different side to him....the lovesick puppy side that is!!! Nevermind that he fell for the woman that slept with his teenage son...the woman that also happens to be his brother's ex-wife!!! Still...it could have been worse...he could have decided to go after Leah (again) However...he is a detective...and yet Kelli is playing all these games right under his nose. Infact it's Belle that works things out! And he hardly seems to acknowledge that he has a son that he doesn't really know!!! Ok so he's willing to die for his kid...but most parents are...there was so much more that could have been done with Peter. *sigh* :(

Martha I actually used to like her. Then it all changed. She walked out on Jack and her marriage blaming his work schedule ...and straight away went into another realtionship with another cop!!! She then finds out he's married with kids and decides to stick with him if he is willing to leave his family. What is wrong with her? I can understand that she has had a hard time dealing with Ash leaving her and an even harder time dealing with her abortion but if she thinks Cam is the better option for her...then she needs to get her head checked!!! Even though she annoys me so much...I think it's kinda cool how she does what she wants...and not what others want for her. In some wierd way she has managed to stay the strong person that she has always been!!! (It annoys me that I can't stand her...but still like her)

Jack Always hated him with Martha. Thought we should have had the chance to see him be single for a while. However I liked him with Sam...and Rory. Ever since they left he's become so obsessed with Martha and Cam. It's worrying and boring. The guy needs to get a life!!!

Wow, Carmelle long post...but great to read :P. Interesting point you made about Kim's age, he does 'seem' to have been 19 forever but has matured alot throughout the last year or so.

I was watching one of the Five Life episodes the other from the early years and Leah was really bubbly and energetic and now i'm not sure where an earth that side to her has got to!! Maybe it was because she was with Vinnie or something...I don't know!

The two characters I would change the most are probably Martha and Lucas.

Martha: I love Martha I think she is a great character but someone posted a similar comment in another thread...she doesn't seem to learn from her mistakes! And your point Carmelle about Martha and Jack breaking up then she starts going out with another cop ...I agree. The question I ask when I think about that is that if she went out with another cop so soon after breaking up with Jack...a cop...did she really want to break up with him in the first place if she went and did the same thing again?? But that is another topic in itself...thats more actions than what I would like to see change Martha as a character :P. I think her learning from her mistakes a bit more would be good and more realistic too!

Lucas : I am purely saying Lucas because of whats happening in Aus at the moment, so I can't really discuss it in great detail in here...but he has matured a fair but since he came to Summer Bay and then recently there has been this change in him...not just his actions...but him. He has become more agressive and is quite full of anger sometimes. All characters change at some point for one reason or another but Lucas has really changed, and I just hope like I said in a previous post that something happens that wakes him up a bit to his recent attitude .

Which ever way you look at it you can't really hate a character that much. Its usually what they do or what they don't do that can wind you up a bit. But every character has their own personality which makes them who they are and thats what I love about Home and Away...everyone's personalities mix together, sometimes well sometimes...not so well!! Thats what makes the show interesting and exciting to me :D.

Cassie changed quite a bit during her 'I must stop Lily from seeing Jules' phase. She got very overprotective of Lily, which is something that we haven't really seen too much of from her character. It was nice to see though but I think at times she used Macca as an example too much. Even though Lily and Cassie were both in abusive relationships, Cassie did come over a bit forceful sometimes when she was trying to stop Lily from seeing Jules. As I said it was nice to see that side of Cassie though :D. She is one of those characters who would do anything to help a friend and I think that was proven with the helpline storyline :D.

I am really glad that you mentioned Cassie's charactor because I feel that most people on the forum focus on mattue, ric, drew and belle as the main teens.

I think Cassie handled the whole lilly situation well and i don't think that she was too overprotective because if you put yourself in cassie's position you can see why she was a bit apprehesive of lily (who is really vulnerable) hooking up with Jules, someone who cracked onto her and seems really into whisky.

I think overall Cassie is my favourite out of all the teens because of the basic fact that she acts like a normal teen. I like how they bring up her abusive past with macca often because it is not something that you can easily forget. I mean with Matilda when she became bulimic she just cried for a while and went to rehab and then she came back and it has not been mentioned since. Ric's personality changes too often, I mean one day he acts all serious and hard and the next day he is acting the comedian.

Sorry about my vent. But I feel better now. lol

You have made a good point here Kiwi, Cassie was basically trying to help someone in a really bad situation who was very vunerable. I did think at some stages though that she was trying to make too many decisions for Lily when perhaps it would have been better for her to take a step back and analize the situation from a bit of a different perspective. I think it would have been different if Kyle was still on the loose when Lily and Jules started hanging out because she still would have been at risk but I can see your point about Cassie being a bit weary of Lily seeing someone like Jules. Overall I think Cassie did what any real friend would do in that kind of situation. She even risked her life for her on a couple of occasions when she could have sat back and not done anything. But Cassie or any of the other characters for that matter, are just not the types who would do nothing if someone was in real danger.

One of the things I love about Cassie, is that she is very loyal to her friends. I particulary notice that with Matilda. They have had a few arguements now and then but all in all they have always stuck together...whether we have actually got to see much of them together on screen this year is another question though :P. Saying that...yesterdays Aussie episode had a nice Mattie and Cassie scene, which was nice to see :D.

One thing I have noticed this year is that there seems to be a constant stream of guest characters who storylines revolve around. I'm not sure if there are any more than previous years but they seem very apparant this year. Let's think there has been Kit, Ash, Kelli, Ethan, Jules, Cam, Sam, Rory Lily, Hugh, Julie, Naomi.. the list is endless. There are a fewer proportion of storylines involving just the permanent cast these days I think which is a little unimaginative in the writers part.

I've quoted that from the 'Has H&A lost anything?' thread and I thought it could be interesting to discuss. I agree with what Karena is saying in regards to the decrease in the regular characters having less to do than the guest characters. Guest characters are great, they can bring in some good storylines e.g Rocco and the gang but sometimes as Karena's list shows there seems to be too many guests. Its not a bad thing at all but I think the regulars like Irene, Dan and Leah who have been very underused so far this year, could do with a storyline which can revolve around them and the permanent cast.

Guest characters are important...they can bring fresh and innovative storylines which can involve the main cast but like Karena said, there seems to be a larger proportion of guests having things to do rather than the regulars. A nice balance between them is needed IMO. I think it started at the beginning of this season. Rocco was still around, Kelli and Ethan came along and then they just kept coming :P.

My favourite guest characters of this year are definately Rocco, Johnny, Lily and Hugh. Ian Meadows portrayed Rocco in such a unique way. You could really feel the pain and guilt that he was going through after the stabbing and I felt that that was one of the best storylines of this year...simply because of the writing and the portrayal of it.

Johhny was a very interesting character. The way he led his brother into his world and tried to make him feel guilty if he didn't do what he wanted him to do was just extraordinary. Callan was amazing and him and Ian in the scene in the police station just before the season finale was very powerful IMO and really showed how well the storyline at that point in time was going to unfold.

The abuse storyline involving Cassie and Lily was very well done I felt. Her exit was quite good in the way that she felt she needed to move on from Kyle and find her own feet. She should have stayed on for longer :P.

Rodger Corser A.K.A Hugh is a really good actor. I find him very natural in his way and manner which is nice. The Kit/Kim/Rachel/Hugh love quadrangle is really starting to develop in the UK and i'm sure quite a few of you will agree that Chris, The Amys :P and Rodger have done a great job in portraying the storyline so far.

All of the guest cast this year have been really great in their portrayal of the storylines they have been involved in so i'm not complaining that they are not because they are :P. I just think a small drop in the amount of 'comings and goings' in the guest department would be good :D.

Wow, long posts!! I loved reading them both :D.

I agree with alot of what you have both said, about certain characters. I'd also love to see some more Rachel and Brad 'big bubba' :P interaction. 2006 was great in that way, but the storylines have been quite different this year from what they were last year, so thats most likely why. 2007 has had its odd moments of fun and laughter, but there has been quite a but less than last year, but again that is due to the darker stroylines e.g Martha at the Rocket Club :P.

Anyhow I love Home and Away, i'm prefering the episodes being shown in Aussie at the moment to the ones in the UK, they are great!! :D

So do I
