Too many villians??

I absolutely love villains, and H&A has always had the best ones, right from the start! It's one of the things I love about the show.

But I agree with what (I think) the original poster was saying, that we don't need so many of them, one after the next after the next after the next... In fact less is more. When there hasn't been a bad guy for a while, it makes it all the more exciting when one comes along.

I agree, Ste. One after the other.

Kelli and Amanda leave, Alexi arrives and causes trouble.

:P

I think the show needs a Villain-free show for around a year, then have a mild villain. Then after 6 or 7 months, another Sarah-type freak.

I think people are forgetting that even though they are labelled villains, there are many different catagories of this.

Sarah Lewis - Villian due to drugs, which made her come off as a sympathetic bad girl. You just couldn't hate her because you knew that it all started because of Felix.

Non!Zoe - Psychotic from an early age who used her love for Sarah as an excuse to hurt people.

Corey - Hurt people because in his eyes, they hurt him. Some hated but others felt for him because he had every right to take revenge.

Johnny Cooper - He wasn't psychotic; he was just an agressive gang leader who could intimidate.

Get it?

Very good point, Musie.

I would prefer the Sarah or Johnny category from now on. The Non!Zoe category is ....meh...once is enough.

I like the Charlie category - form a deadly obsession with someone spunky. I like his style

The Corey category... I think Zoe would be in that... and I don't want to see her back from the dead again - we had Kelli for that  - but I still feel that Corey has unfinished business in that town. He used to be a cop, surely he made contacts with someone who could weasel him out of prison...

Exactly. A villian is good, it does shake up the show a bit, but if you rely on too many, too soon then in my view it's just a bit lazy. Having said it, it's an interesting point that was made that with some of the younger villians it's been interesting to see how their bad side has been taken from their good image.

I read a bit about this Corey character, from the sounds of it he was an obsessive, who killed hisa grandmother, why did he kill her, was there a reason apart from madness? Bring back Saul! (Who incidently was the original crazy person to run a commune in the Bush)

If there is one type of villainous character that I particularly dislike, it's town development storylines/caravan park selling storylines.

First of all the storylines are completely implausible as shown by Brett's attempt to use Summer Bay as a toxic waste dump and then second Josh's attempts to build a road through Summer Bay.

As I mentioned to Ste, earlier on after visiting Glasgow today, that building motorways through a city isn't a good idea

Most of the previous attempts have been poor and perhaps, completely implausible.

You're referring to Charlie there. Charlie was a quiet kid who Kim and Rachel stumbled upon when Rachel's sick mother wandered away and ended up at his house. Rachel noticed that Charlie's grandmother had a nasty cough and convinced Charlie to let them take her to a hospital. Charlie didn't want to do that because he took his grandfather to a hospital when he got sick and he never came back... but he trusted that Rachel knew what she was doing.

Charlie never had any real friends. He'd been pretty much trapped in his house, looking after his grandparents. He had zero social skills, so when Rachel and Kim were nice to him, he took that to mean that they were his best friends. Eventually he started to see Kim as a role model and wanted to be like him - snuck into the Gym after hours and to wear Kim's uniform and name tag, etc... Then his grandmother started to get better, and Rachel said she could go home soon. But Charlie knew that if she went back home, he'd have to go too, and he wouldn't be able to hang out with his friends anymore. So he gave her an overdose of morphine to try and keep her sick, but he accidentally killed her instead. Then he blamed Rachel for it, and when no one believed him, he started planning Rachel's funeral (literally, he had documents for it at his house with her name on them). Then he kidnapped her and held her hostage and demanded that Kim go drinking with him at the bar, because they were friends and that's what friends do... But unfortunately Charlie didn't have the presense of mind to keep Rachel somewhere other than the place he'd taked Kim to, because she was tied up in the Gym and Kim heard her calling out for him and then punched Charlie, which in turn made Charlie's lung collapse (very dramatic) and he had to be taken to the hospital. From there he went to the psych ward and that was the end of it.

Now, Corey on the other hand... His storyline was laid in months before his arrival, with Irene being called away for jury duty. It turns out that she was one of the jurors that sent Corey's father to prison for some white-collar crime, where he proceeded to commit suicide. This tore Corey's family apart and landed his mother in an institution. As payback, Corey poisoned Irene (as well as the jurors before her) with mercury until she too went insane and was institutionalised. He then tried to kill her, but Jack worked out what he was up too and saved Irene in the nick of time.

The fun thing about Corey is that he wasn't introduced as a villain, he came in at the same time as Jack - his police partner. He just appeared to be someone for Jack to play off who then became more integrated with the cast by moving into Irene's house (which is how he got close enough to keep her on a steady stream of poison). He also formed a romantic relationship with Martha, which arguably gave Jack a reason to hate him just enough to find everything he did highly suspicious. In the end, Corey tried to leave town with an unsuspecting Martha, but she found his scrap book of "people I've killed" and did a runner into the bush (excellent scene - one of my favourites). Jack saved her as well and Corey is now in jail, still in the belief that he was completely entitled to do what he did, and the sooner Martha understands that, the sooner they can be happy together. Which is why I say he has unfinished business.

Oh I hope not!

That was such a chilling end to the storyline. In a way I hope we don't see Corey again because that ending was too perfect to top :)
