William was a very sensitive, kind, and gentle person. Becoming a vampire didn't change that, it just made him care about killing things as well :). When The Judge tried to burn Angelus, he couldn't do it because Liam was a spoiled, arrogant brat to begin with - removing his soul left him with no humanity whatsoever. But The Judge commented that Spike and Dru reaked of humanity, they shared genuine affection for each other... it's just the type of people they were, soul or not.

When Angelus was given his soul back, he was shocked and dismayed about what he'd done, but he was still Liam - still a spoiled brat who knew how to think of things as being everyone's fault but his... Darla turned him, the gypsies cursed him, and now he just has to endure the consequences of their actions... Spike on the other hand asked for Dru to turn him, even though he didn't understand what was happening at the time... and he loved her as a vampire, and she loved him, which we understand to be a rare trait for soulless beings to possess... So when that soul was returned, William returned with all his human weakness, coupled with the knowledge of what he'd done... and he self-destructed and went completely insane... You'll forgive him if he was a little "wimpy" then...

"Lies My Parents Told Me" is one of my favourite episodes. Watch that again and then tell me that he's lost his edge...

OK, so William was a nice person and all...and Spike tortured people with railway spikes. And yeah, Spike had his moments of sassyness in season 7, but I still think he went TOO too soft. I can't remember who said it but after they sent Vampire Willow back to her own universe, when Willow was stressing about being gay because vampire her was gay (or rather your garden variety saucy bisexual wench), they implied that although they had no souls, vampires still retained some of their human personalities. Meaning William had always had something in him that drove him to...torture people with railway spikes. I'd have liked to see some of that inherent evilness carried on in season 7.

And I wish I could watch "Lies My Parents Told Me", but I don't have ANY Buffy! It's terrible, but I can't afford anything, and haven't been able to since I first discovered Buffy. They should make me a charity!

Do you feel the urge to go out and torture people with railway spikes? I hope that's a no. William was gentle and caring, the only reason he became an evil montster who went out and tortured people with railway spikes was because he turned into an evil vampire, Sired by Drusilla and guided by Angelus and Darla, the most evil vampires that ever eviled. Emmasi has a great point as to why Spike became "wussy" and why Angel "wasn't" when they had their souls. Spike was written brilliantly in Season 7, coupled with the fact that he was consumed by The First the most evil evil that ever eviled, I'm pretty sure if that was me I'd turn into a wuss.

Hi, I was just wondering I read somewhere that Gary Oldman was in a episode called Lover's Walk (S3 E8). I watched it today but couldn't see him. Does anyone know if it's true and if it is, which character he plays?

Cheers!

According to IMDB, he's on the soundtrack of Lover's Walk singing/performing "My Way," which would be the song that Spike is listening to at the end when he's driving off in his car. If memory serves.

Gary Oldman isn't actually credited as being in the epsiode.

Wow! I havent been on this part of the forum in like two months and this thread is still going! Yay! :D

I was just wondering if anyone has been getting the buffy "season 8" comics and if so, are they any good? I want to buy them but, they might be really cheesy and probably really short lol. Thanks! :)

Haven't seen them, but if season 5 of Angel is anything to go by, I wouldn't bother. The Buffy side of the universe seemed to be heavily centered on Slayerettes. Gag.
