Finally someone who know what they are talking about!! Spike was never the "caring" type, he was a tough bad-ass (and that was the sexy thing about him)

Becoming a vampire didn't change that, it just made him care about killing things as well . When The Judge tried to burn Angelus, he couldn't do it because Liam was a spoiled, arrogant brat to begin with - removing his soul left him with no humanity whatsoever. But The Judge commented that Spike and Dru reaked of humanity, they shared genuine affection for each other... it's just the type of people they were, soul or not. When Angelus was given his soul back, he was shocked and dismayed about what he'd done, but he was still Liam - still a spoiled brat who knew how to think of things as being everyone's fault but his... Darla turned him, the gypsies cursed him, and now he just has to endure the consequences of their actions... Spike on the other hand asked for Dru to turn him, even though he didn't understand what was happening at the time... and he loved her as a vampire, and she loved him, which we understand to be a rare trait for soulless beings to possess... So when that soul was returned, William returned with all his human weakness, coupled with the knowledge of what he'd done... and he self-destructed and went completely insane... You'll forgive him if he was a little "wimpy" then... "Lies My Parents Told Me" is one of my favourite episodes. Watch that again and then tell me that he's lost his edge...
rennyren Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 OK, so William was a nice person and all...and Spike tortured people with railway spikes. And yeah, Spike had his moments of sassyness in season 7, but I still think he went TOO too soft. I can't remember who said it but after they sent Vampire Willow back to her own universe, when Willow was stressing about being gay because vampire her was gay (or rather your garden variety saucy bisexual wench), they implied that although they had no souls, vampires still retained some of their human personalities. Meaning William had always had something in him that drove him to...torture people with railway spikes. I'd have liked to see some of that inherent evilness carried on in season 7. And I wish I could watch "Lies My Parents Told Me", but I don't have ANY Buffy! It's terrible, but I can't afford anything, and haven't been able to since I first discovered Buffy. They should make me a charity!

I'm still to collect all my seasons, and because i spend my allowence as soon as i get it, i don't always have enough left to buy anything i really need, such as the rest of Buffy! I should really think of setting up a savings account. *hmmmmm*
