Newcomers/guests... give them a chance!

This is not a bashing thread, it's just something that needs to be said.

I saw a thread about there being too manu guests in Home and Away, but to be honest, it makes the show more real, because having the same character in every episode is just not real enough. We need a few strangers to add more drama, such as...

Lily

Now I havent always welcomed guests before, like Emily. in a way that was a bit different, we didnt know Brad that well either, so whatever happened with him, people didnt care much, as we didnt get to know him. However...

with Lily, she pretty much is part of Cassie's helpline storyline. Cassie was affected by abuse, and now we see her seeing someone else go through the same pain, and shes determined not to let anyone else suffer the same way. We all know cassie and like her, so Lily isnt out of the blue, like Brad and Emily

Bottom line - we should give the newbies/guests more of a chance in the future.

Yeah but people have to get used to a character before they can like them, to be honest I dont agree when you say that we dont give them a chance. We do! Its just not all new characters are nice ones.

I have Given C** ample chance I dislike him immensely, Ash I judged yet again after seeing him in action for over 10 episodes, Havent made my mind up about L**y give it a few more episodes. I think the point people were making was regulars who have been on the show as long as 7 and 14 years fall into the background while these newcomers take over everything it needs to be a more equal balance.

I have to agree with you. I am all for the newcomers but they shouldnt forget the cast they have already forgot, they are the ones after all we really want to see with the hot storylines. I would love to see Alf doing more than just fishing and working the odd shift at Noah's!

Dont think Alf has had a great deal to work with Since Ailsa died apart from the tumour and Ric's appearance, i think this is why the older generation leave and only the younger one's stay they get up with being fed crumbs from the table

We could see some romance for him? Or he could atleast look after baby Pippa a little more.

I think characters like Irene, Leah, Dan, and Tony are a little wasted sometimes. I mean Leah and Dan hardly do anything execpt take/pick up the boy to/from Stellas, sort out Drew and fight with Peter and Amanda. Come on Leah needs a bit more going on surely. As for Tony we hardly ever see him.

The show always relies heavily on guest characters to spice up the lives of the (pretty bland) regular characters.

It would be very interesting if, even just for a trial period, the writers stopped bringing in these guest characters and tried focussing soley on the main characters, giving them all something to do and seeing what they get up to.

Most of the guest characters in the last 4 years have kept me watching. I began watching full time for Angie & Dylan, continued to watch for Kit, became fascinated in Felix & Sarah Lewis and continued watching in 2005 because of Zoe.

But I was beginning to lose my love for the show until Johnny.

Guest characters on their own can sometimes be bad. But add them with a few, or just one full time character, and you get gold. Most of the time.

I started the thread about the show having too many guest characters. What I was complaining about was that every story on the show had something to do primarily with a guest character.

Amanda and Kelli

Martha and her assorted boyfriends

Brad and the gang

Cassie and L***

Kit and ????

Jack and Sam

...etc

There's probably 7 or 8 "permanent guest characters" in the show, in a short period of time.

In the past there'd be about two or three guest character on the show that would make it to the BTTB web****e, over these two or three weeks,

Take Zoe, the only other main guest character at that time was Marc.

What I see as the problem is that every second character is a guest character.
