Questionnaire

I'd really appreciate it if some members could find the time to fill out this short questionnaire on their feelings about the show. These questions represent some of the topics I am discussing in my dissertation for my Media Production degree, I've also asked them to various people on the show.

How do you think H&A conveys Australian national identity?

How do you think that H&A has helped to develop Australian character?

Do you think that H&A has delivered a diverse range of education, entertainment and information?

Can you explain the way in which you feel H&A meets social and cultural responsibilities?

Cheers! :)

Well hmm, Anzac, Day, BBQS, beer, more of an outdoors living culture, the hot clean climate, the beach. Backpakers.

Do you think that H&A has delivered a diverse range of education, entertainment and information?

Well Yes 70% of the time, given the time slot and the age range it has to cater for.

Australia has just the same problems as any other citys. If not more so!

It has high a depression and unemployment rate eg not enough skilled people with the skills to fill the jobs, have to reply on oversea emloyee's . Cause of the vast amount of miles between towns, isolatation etc...

Hope this is what you meant, Good luck.

Thanks Di that's just the sort of thing I'm after!

One of the things I'm looking at is how the show portrays Australia and whether it represents a true image of Australia (and whether it actually can do this, given the restrictions put upon the production by ABA regulations for the timeslot)

Ooo This is rather interesting. I'd also like to read your dissertation once it's completed, if that's ok with you.

Good Luck :D

I think it truly represents the small sea-side town’s and country folk of Australia well, in regards to the community spirit, BBQ’s, Beach, Surf, Surf Club and all that. The friendliness isn’t just restricted to these areas though, I’d say the majority of Aussie’s are easy going, laid-back, un-confrontational, have a ‘no worries’ attitude, and we are pretty much a class-less society etc etc and I think H&A tries to portray that, and does so well. Australia is still very much an innocent country and culture, but that isn’t to say we don’t have our share of crime – rape, murder, paedophilia, depression and I think Australia has one of the highest in numbers of suicides! My personal view on the suicide issue, is that obviously there are the farming and drought issues, and I think it’s a stat that currently 3 farmers commit suicide every few days (please correct me those who know) – but it’s the happy-go-lucky no worries attitude that can really isolate people that have say bi-polar or other social anxieties, as they are surrounded by the opposite, and most people probably feel like they cant talk about it, as they don’t want to way people down with there issues, as naturally we are mostly a positive up-beat culture.

I don’t think H&A truly reflects the small towns in the way of all the murders and evil people out to ruin Summer Bay, but that’s just for the viewers pleasure, so who cares – I think the heart of the show sends out only positive messages, and does reflect truly the majority.

I think the show gives tackles issues we face, but do street clear of some of the more horrific sides of life in general both here and around the world - such as class a drug addictions and over-doses and suicide.

How do you think that H&A has helped to develop Australian character?

I think it reflects the warmth Aussies have and passion for friendships and relationships - people can relate to the show and its characters, so I'm sure its helped to reinforce what we already were about.

I think its always important with H&A to remember its about a small-seaside town, so it doesn’t have many say black characters – some people think this is bizarre, and whilst it would be good to have a Chinese character of black character, in actuality its pretty much realistic you don’t see that many black people in Summer Bay, because there are hundreds of small towns like it. Thats not to say they shouldnt though.

Do you think that H&A has delivered a diverse range of education, entertainment and information?

Yes.

Can you explain the way in which you feel H&A meets social and cultural responsibilities?

I think question 2 kinda answers this too.

I think she meant that doing an Assignment on H&A would be embarrassing. >.<

I think it's quite interesting doing it on H&A. Many people judge others when they say they watch Home And Away. Little do they know that they're missing the best soap ever. :P
