In defence of ITV, they did once allow Sophie to mention how her schoolfriends would 'cack themselves laughing' at something or other about 15 years go.

That was in the early years. It's no secret at all that H&A used the occasional swear word (bitch, bloody), in the early years and that ITV showed it. They didn't get into censor overdrive until the mid nineties.

Usually when people talk about ITV's editing of the show, they are referring to 1996 onwards
