If you have two characters of the same sex, who just can do nothing but have chemistry with each other, then many viewers pick up on this.

*Sigh...*

Regarding the J/M summary, which I will admit to being purely my own handy work, I hope that everybody can appreciate the fact that the summary includes two sides of the argument, providing fans' previously given reasons for liking them and the opinions the 'other side' have contributed.

The relationship between Jack and Martha seems to be something like Marmite; the forum members either love them or hate them. At times, the hate seems much stronger than the love, but obviously not strong enough to stop the Golden Couple of the moment from just taking first place. When asked what makes the couple so special, fans never really seem to be able to give many good reasons, although it has been argued that they represent the ups and downs of every normal couple. Too normal, some may say. What the JM 'haters' seem to really dislike about the relationship is that it lacks any real substance and generally, all that the obsessive fans seem to compliment them for is... well, Paul O'Brien's 'looks'.

Any avid member of this forum will know that this particular couple have been the subject of much debate and having been voted number 1, surely this had to be considered, because as Ryan pointed out, this is a fan site and a poll based purely on fans' opinions.

^^ Fair enough. I just feel that maybe more could have been said about the characters separatley and why they are so great together as a couple, as it was only mentioned that they 'represent the ups and downs of a normal couple'. But nothing was really said about why they work so well together.

But i understand that you had to write a summary for every couple and that must have been a bit of a drag. Either way its over now and i appreciate your comment about it being a fan poll, therefore opinions are bound to get in the way.

Anyway, all is good now :D

As I said earlier, if the person writing the summary believes that the characters are not very interesting or appealing, or that they don't work well together at all, it's pretty hard for them to write about how the relationship is so great when they are having difficulty seeing what the fans actually like about them. Also, there have been a lot of people who come on here stating how "hot" or "cute" they think Jack/Paul O'Brien is, rather than how much they like the character, which might be one of the reasons a lot of people (I'm not saying all of the JM fans) voted for them in the first place.

That is a good point.... however...over the last year I have asked several times for people to try and explain WHY they like J and M...as I do not get it... there are a number of couples that I am not a big fan of...for example Kirsty and Kane, Robbie and Tasha and Kim and Rachel...but I can see why they have a fan base and why people like them...and generally speaking people have explained over time what it is that they like... unless I have missed it...which I concede is possible ... I have not seen any real explanation as to why J and M are the couple of the moment... apart from the comments about them being cute.

And....at the outset of the feature going up on the main site Ryan and Liz said very clearly that their write ups should not be taken seriously as they were...in the main...tongue in cheek.

A sense of humour...and of perspective..is something we should all strive for IMO.

This poll was fair and square...the votes were counted and the most popular couple at the time won.

I can see why people like JM, even though I'm not a fan. They have a certain amount of chemistry, they look good together and their relationship was quite fun and sparky at the beginning. But I do think they've become dull (bad storylines haven't helped) and they were always a bit cliched (particularly the fact that they started off hating each other). I can see why this might appeal to younger fans, and a certain amount of cheese isn't necessarily a bad thing...it's just that these days I want a bit more from my couples.

I hope you dont mean the teenybobbers! Were not all like that...

As for your comment about them becoming dull and boring, yeh they did a bit but that was due to bad storylines like you said. They barely got two scenes together after they got married, ud think they would have got more considering they were spose to be married. I guess the writers just really wanted to end them. :(

I do admit that some of the voting baffled me...became interesting when I had to find pics for them!

Little bit of subtle photoshopping and all of a sudden things look a bit dirty! :P
