The Couples Votes:What do you reckon?

I have absolutely no problem with people not liking J&M - their opinion, that's fine, but like Jamey Maria said, why do you have to scorn everything about them at every possible moment? Ok, so yea, J&M are only one of many of my favourite couples. I'm not trying to say that they should have been at the top, but that summary was so biased! Most other couples got some kind of nice comment, but no, the J&M summary had to have points about nobody knowing why they're popular, or that they're only liked becaus they're attractive. The same happened when Jack got to No5 in the Favourite Character poll. Yes, if you look at it in the sense that couples from the current year have more weighting (etc.. ) then J&M technically would not be first. But the poll was taken in 2006, and judging on their popularity this year, J&M are favourites. That shouldn't mean that they deserve to get a sarcastic summary about them being no more than a pretty couple. Other couples didn't get that - certainly not the ones in the top 10 or so. I mean, you could have put something nice in there for once. And you also didn't fail to mention how they only won by a few points either. They won. Deal with it. They didn't get 196 points for nothing. Maybe the reason J&M fans are so pro-JM is because they constantly have to back up their choice because no one here who isn't a fan, can be fair about them. Yea, I'm not saying everyone, and I can see and appreciate that some have stopped - which I thank you for. But still, that unfair summary given to them, still shows up that some of you can't just ever leave it alone.

I completely agree! It was biased, the writer of the summary should not have let their personal view get in the way, JnM won fair and square and should have been given the recognition they deserve, not just claiming they won due to their attractivness. Which for myself and for many other fans is not the only reason why we like them, although that may suprise alot of you <_<

The thing is that the whole of the Most Popular Character feature last year and half of the Most Popular Couples feature (the last half, ie, the couples 40 downwards) was written by me and I took it in a light-hearted tone and also the way that I see it.

Note that once I had my say I let genuine fans have there say as I did with the rest of the top 5.

I'm sure as you go down the lists you'll find other couples that would be unhappy with my views on them.

This is a fan site, written and produced by fans, and fansites, free from the constraints of official-ness, will have opinions on them, some that people won't like.

Well said Jade also.

The summary about them wasn't right... it was basically just whoever wrote its' thoughts. Now, if they're fine about that then great - but there are an awful lot of J&M fans (shown by the poll) that are going to read that and just roll their eyes at the unimagenative, false, overused comments made.

If you don't like J&M that's fine, but putting that in the summary? It's a poll for favourite couples, so why is there negative comments in it? They've won! It seems hardly fair that the winning couple get a dig at, just because the writer thought they'd look funny. The J&M fan thing really gets on my nerves. We can be J&M fans without being obsessed or madly in love with their looks. Like Jade said, practically everyone on H&A is good looking now, so why are J&M the only ones that are apparently judged on looks?

It's no wonder theirs such a split between non-J&M and J&M with stuff like the summary on the main website.

Yes I can see that, and I do find the summaries quite amusing to read, but you can't deny that you're comments for J&M or in terms of the Most Popular Character Poll, Jack, are more cutting than others. Maybe I should have said that the extent to which you criticise them, or satirically comment on them is more than most. It's the fact that in comparison to other couples/characters they are more unfairly commented on. Not really the fact that you use a light hearted tone.

But in the end, I guess it's not the end of the world, and I'm not specifically targetting you Ryan, it just annoys me sometimes. But I wasn't the one who spent all my time writing the summaries so I don't want to try and really criticise you when you honestly did do a good job. I just find that some people just can't seem to let go of any oppurtunity to comment badly on them.

Let's get back to discussing the pecking order, I'm a Jack and Martha fan but cannot believe that they got posted above Sally and Flynn.

Sally and Flynn are like totally iconic, they are like a modern day Shane and Angel and both stories are so tragic. I have the feeling that people have forgotton poor Flynn already.

Shame on you all.

^^Well said you guys!

Maybe if people would look past their looks theyd realise the other reasons as to why they actually won.

People that criticise them are only jealous that their hotter than them!

Remember what your mom used to say, if they pick on you, it means they like you :P

Not in my case. I still hate JM. I can't see past their so-called 'good looks' and don't think they have any sort of spark at all. It doesn't help that the actors aren't all that great, but there we go. JM didn't even have enough substance to make it one whole year. At first, they were cute. Now Martha's character has been totally ruined. And Jack .. well is just Jack. Although he has improved somewhat in my estimations since dumping the cling-on.

Just my opinion. Which, as already stated, everyone is allowed to have. I'm not attacking fans, just voicing my own opinion on the result.

Edit: Replying to earlier posts. By the way, i loved all the Ryan/Liz summaries :P

Well I can't say anything about the top half of this thing because I can't remember whether or not I wrote it so I'm not going to comment on that one personally.

I'm not going to deny that some of my comments are more cutting for certain characters are more cutting than others, because I'm writing my thoughts down to put together that feature and/or why I think they turned out to be popular. The thing was, at the time of writing that feature last June. As a character, though not as a couple at the time of writing I found that Jack, whilst having more than his family, had a raft of dodgy policing storylines and forced Martha togetherness and at the time, with a large number of members signing up to the forum with names, and then voting about the temperature of both Jack and Paul O'Brien, it appeared that his fanbase was female, young and had a certain crush on him.

However, if I were to write "Jack's high ranking is to do with his storylines, his heartwarming relationship with Martha" half of you will agree with me, and the others think that it's just heaped full of sarcasm.

For instance, Ric and Noah, two characters who were relatively high up and had a teenage following despite relatively mundane storylines at the time of the poll, Julian McMahon fans might not be too happy with my review of him either, but the factual piece, though I'm probably right in thinking that we actually don't have one, about the character

It must also be noted that I disliked Sally and Flynn and I think gave them 3 points in the Least Popular Character, and had I written that part of the recent feature, my view of them might have been less glowing. I may or may not have voted for them at the time, but I liked Lucas and Matilda as a couple despite being a bit like DietJM
