I think the writers just paired up two pretty and frankly quite stupid characters on the basis that the fans would like them because they looked good together. I think they are an exceptionally bad couple because they have no chemistry and nothing that drives them to be together, aside from their looks. They don't complete eachother, they aren't soulmates. This is why they've broken up so soon.
carmelle Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 I am so glad that Vinnie and Leah are no.3 cause they were absolutely fantastic and happen to be my favourite couple to this very day. I still miss Vinnie. IMO i dont think Jack and Martha should be in the top 5 cause i don't see what is so great about them. They dont seem to have that chemistry between them. Jack could be a great character, if it wasn't for Martha. Will and Gypsy deserve to be there. They were another great couple.

I think people are just voting for them because they are a couple of the moment kind of thing, even though they're not a couple!! The same way Lucas and Mattie are higher than Noah and Hayley. Only because they are a recent couple but by no means one of Home and Away's greatest. I can't speak for the J&M fans, but I voted for Lucas and Mattie, not because they were the couple of the moment, but because they were one of my favourite couples. Wasn't that the question? Who's your favourite couple? Or was it best... I don't remember... But if it was favourite, then I don't think you can hassle people for voting for the couple they like the most. I don't remember much of Noah and Hayley, and what I do remember is Hayley being a self-obsessed twit while Noah secretly had the hots for Kit! Not the greatest couple there, either. I voted for Mattie and Lucas because I like Mattie, and I like Lucas. Together they were very very cute. I loved how innocent their relationship was, and that they weren't all over each other from the word go. It wasn't an "oops, I saw you naked! Now I must have sex with you!" thing that a lot of couples seem to start with. It was just a shy smile, a dropped charm from a bracelet... classic puppy love, and it was adorable. Is it wrong to value innocence and sweetness in a relationship, and be happy that two characters you like are happy together? If it is, then maybe I shouldn't have voted for Robbie and Tash either! (Of course, they did see a lot of each other naked, but still )
Welshfan Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Perhaps people feel that if the vote was to happen again then the couples of the moment would not feature as highly as they do now. I think that of the ones I have seen so far, Vinnie and Leah - who always made me laugh, Will and Gypsy - who were such a challenging couple, Shane and Angel - who could break your heart and make you cry, Irene and Barry - who were the best of the older couples, and possibly Kirsty and Kane and maybe Robbie and Tasha, will be remembered in the same way as they are at present. It is lovley that lots of other couples are loved by fans, but not many of them stand the test of time. Many fo the couples in the 20 to 40 bracket were bigger then Jack and Martha and Hayley and Noah in their hey day. I remember when Bobby ad Frank were more famous than the prime minister. I do like the idea of Robbie and Kim emmasi. What a pity the writers did not go with that one. It looks like Sally and Flynn and Jack and Martha for the top two. They are both wonderful to their fans so I don't think it matters too much which one comes out on top.

Yeah... stupid writers That's another thing I forgot to mention. This poll allowed you to vote for characters that you WANTED to be together, so that any couple - even ones that didn't technically exist (although what they got up to off screen...) - were entitled to a vote as long as the voter liked them. Maybe some day there'll be a poll to determine the most memorable, perfect, realistic, romantically explicit, and indestructable H&A couple of all time, but this wasn't it. The word was popular. For the record, I don't like that Martha and Jack are in the top two, because I don't like them. That's why I didn't vote for them. That's not to say they shouldn't be there though, just because I don't like them. Clearly a lot of people do, which, funnily enough, makes them popular... The J&M phenomenon has been a thorn in many people's sides, but there's no accounting for taste. I'm sure a whole lot of people aren't too happy that Robbie and Kim beat out Alf and Ailsa either, but what are you gonna do? That's the way the votes landed, and they didn't cast themselves.

Granted, the writers turned them into a pair of fighting babies in the brief time they were married, but no other couple has ever really been as popular as them, from day one they've had a massive fan basis. Why? bacause they have a spark that can't be explained, and that not many other couples have. ^^totally agree. They do have a spark, they are exciting and have alot of chemistry. What other couples have that in the show? Everyone automatically thinks that just because their both beautiful people that thats the only reason why they have so many fans, its not! It just helps that they are JnM to win
emmasi Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 I've never thought that Jack was attractive, and Martha irritated me from day one. However, even I saw the spark . They do have something, and it's a shame that the writers rushed them into what could only be an ill-fated marriage. If they had have been given the time to develop properly, their relationship would probably be one of the strongest. Unfortunately I think they've both got a lot of growing up to do before they can be in a successful adult relationship.

Didn't Kate say on the HAA Weddings DVD Summer Bay was the Place where Two 'Mismatched' lovers could find happiness? Or was that the Romances? Anyway, I'm thinking of changing it to Where two 'Seriously Annoying Mismatched' Lovers can find happiness in JM's Case. But that's only my Opinion.
