beckyboo Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Chapter 15 Thanks Ems for proofing it:) Three hours later Jack was pacing up and down the waiting room, the doctors had been in there for over an hour now and nobody was telling him what was wrong with his daughter! The look of worry and anxiety was clearly shown on his face, a face that wasn’t ready to accept pain again. “Mr Holden you can go in now” the Doctor said as he came out “What’s wrong with her?” Jack asked the doctor “We’ve managed to stabilise her for the time being while we try to work out whats wrong with her” the doctor said and walked away Jack looked at Lucas “Bloody doctors don’t wait for your reaction and don’t want to answer questions” Jack said starting to get angry, all he wanted was for his little girl to be alright, his precious little princess. “Jack calm down please” Luc said “No, that doctor is a jerk, he’s meant to be a doctor, yet my baby could die and he don’t give a damn!” Jack walked in to the room and went a sat by his daughter’s bed. A silence filed the room; all was quiet apart from the beeping noise from the machines. This beep though, showed Jack that his baby was still alive, and that there was some hope that she was going to be fine. This beep was his lifeline. Two hours later Jack was pacing the corridor yet again the doctors where trying to find out what was wrong with little Nicole. “Jack” he heard a woman cry his name When he spun round he was greeted by a hysterical Martha “Where is she where’s my baby?” she cried, Jack could hardly make out the words coming from her mouth. Jack grabbed her as she clung to him. She sobbed into his chest as he cried silently into her hair. They were together again at last, even if the circumstances weren’t happy. At least she was here.

beckyboo Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Chapter 16 Martha and Jack were sat by Nicole’s beside; there was still no news on her condition. The doctors were saying she may have meningitis and she may not survive, the doctor then told Jack and Martha if Nicole had been brought as soon as her temperature was up maybe they could have found it sooner. This just made Jack feel worse, if only he had brought her in straight away. What if their little girl died because of him? Martha and Jack were just heartbroken. The child they had longed for, for so many years may be taken away from them. “Jack” Martha spoke quietly “Yeah” Jack asked looking at her on the opposite side of Nicole’s bedside “Maybe I’m not meant to be a Mum,” she sobbed quietly. “What do you mean?” Jack asked confused “Oh come on Jack if I was meant to be a Mum, then I would not have had 5 miscarriages, one failed adoption and almost another failed adoption. Oh and lets not forget that this little girl could be taken away from us, so you work it out!” she sighed Jack stood up and walked around to the side of the bed and pulled her into a warm embrace. She couldn’t hold it all in anymore, slowly the tears started to roll down her cheeks, the once perfect make-up soon running. It hurt Jack to see her like this, and yet he still kept coming back to the question, if only he had brought her in sooner, what would have happened? In his eyes this was all his fault. He looked down at Martha, the tears still running, he pulled her close towards him, if they were going to get through this, then it would have to be together… Three days later There was still no news and everyone was starting to fear the worst. “Hey guys any news?” Tony asked as he walked in “Nope nothing,” Martha sighed but Jack did not speak. “You ok Jack?” Tony asked “Gee Dad yeah I’m just great! This is all your fault I should never have listened to you I knew something was wrong with my daughter but you told me that there wasn’t! You do realise that I could have saved my daughters life!?” Jack said Tony looked confused. “Yeah if I had brought her in 24 hours earlier she may have been on the road to recovery.” Jack said, he immediately regretted what he had said. Sure his Dad had told him that everything would be fine, but he was the parent. He was Nicole’s Dad and he shouldn’t have been relying on other people to make decisions about her for him! “Jack I’m sorry” Tony tried to apologise. He knew Jack was upset at the moment, it was all getting too much for him, and there was nothing Tony could do about it. He wanted to console him, but he knew it wasn’t his place. “Just go Dad, just go.” Jack said It was then Jack’s turn to let his guard down, he couldn’t be strong anymore, he had to let it all out. It was up to Martha to console him. Martha didn’t know how to tell him her news, what would he think of it? She would have to wait ‘till Nicole was ok before she told him.
