What Makes You Like A Character/Couple?

With couples i find i have to like both characters as individuals otherwise i'm not keen on couples. For example i love Matilda as i find her interesting to watch, easy to relate to and attractive (always a bonus) yet i just found Lucas dull and one dimensional and so i didn't like the relationship.

If you can't warm to a character or find them interesting to watch (either because you can't relate to them, you don't find them interesting or quite simply just don't fancy them) then pairing them up with another character is always going to make that relationship a little boring for you to watch.

For me to like the couple i need to like both the charatcers as individuals first.

I hate it when they keep getting together and breaking up (ric and cassie) and what bugs me about some couples on home and away is the way that step brothers and sisters go out (dani and scott and then matilda and lucas even though beth and tony arent married, it's just a bit wierd)

As long as the couple is believable, not boring together and have interesting storylines together and keep me interested in their stories i usually like them. I like Leah and Dan as a couple, their believable, funny and have had intersting storylines and as long as they dont get another baby storyline they should be fine, although leah should could have more input with the drew storylines.

I think Jack and Martha are a boring married couple. They were good togther until they got married. Now you dont even see them togther.

To me an intersting character is someone that is unique. Other characters that are liked are usually someone that the viewer can relate to in some way.

Hmmm....I'm really glad you made this topic, Natasha. It interests me.

I don't like people because they're 'hot'.

Sometimes it's the person who is most like me, or someone who I would want to play, and that's how I judge them.

For couples, it's how they act around eachother.

For instance, I totally did not like Martha when she had a go at Jack for everything and was a damn dramaqueen. He could do better.

But, Ric and Matilda is kind of nice, coz he's so nice to her and they make a sweet couple after all they've both been through.

Why do I like Kit? I have no idea.

I used to be a pretty big Rachel fan. She was sensible, practical and smart, yet lately I've gone off her. Reasons beyond me. :P

KIt has attitude and can be funny, and she's not just a girl like the rest of them are. Martha, Cassie, etc., it's always the same, but characters like Kit and Tash have something different about them, unique with their own style and personality, although Tasha isn't as much of a free spirit as she used to be. :( LOL.

I am certain that I am going to change my mind next year about my fave. character, LOL.

Oh, I also judge a character by their couple. If cassie

goes all stupid and goes to Macca

, than I go off her. I'm starting to actually warm to Matilda, now that...

She's not with Lucas and is with Ric!!

Oh, and one more thing!:

I think it's what others say and think, too.

I used to love Hayley, but now that others say things about the storyline, reminding me of this or that, I was like 'why did I like her again?'

You get my point.

Okay, I probably wrote too much! :P

Same here, I was just being sarcastic when I said that. :P:rolleyes:

I loved Jack & Martha at first (When he first came and they were argueing and playing games with one another, it was quite cute but so predictable after a while) and I loved it when she was with Corey because Corey was an interesting character to bring into the show and I loved him and Martha as a couple (Even though he was mental and she was probably just trying to make Jack jeluous). They got married very quick though (Especially after Jack's proposal which was so stolen from 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S) and you can just tell what is going to happen next...

Now couples like Tasha and Robbie are fantastic, they are unsusual and so much stronger than other couples in the show. They did not rush into sleeping together or getting married. Only they would have a fake wedding to show how they loved each other so much. You can just tell Robbie really loves Tasha because he always stuck by her and tried to protect her throughout the believers storyline. And yes they might have rushed into their proper wedding after only getting back together the day before but it was beautiful, a perfect wedding and you do not find many of them in soap. He also stuck by her when she found out she was pregnant after being raped by Jonah (No 'I told you so' or anything') and when she told him she thought she had murdered Josh. You could say that most of their relationship revloves around Tasha and argue that Jack & Martha's relationship is more 'balanced out' but Tasha and Robbie are still going strong.^_^

Kim & Rachel's relationship was was not very predictable and is quite good because they have overcomed many problems.

Leah & Dan have to be the best couple on Home & Away. I love them as a married couple, as parents... They both care very much for each other's children and are now looking after Peter's son Drew who you have to admit- Has rebel tatooed on his forehead. After overcoming probably the most problems:

- Dan's gambling

- Leah & Peter

- Dan's car crash/Amnesia(Sp)

- Leah/IVF/Loss of baby

- And now Peter's dead and they are looking after 3 small children (Yes including Drew/His attitude).

To name a few...

And after all that their back together and a very close family, they even have some kind of arrangement with Amanda about Ryan (Well they seem to be getting along now).

Teenage couples are good but I think they should explore more issues with them (Eg. First times, Pregnacy maybe...)

Wow I could have finished my fic in the time this has taken me to write this and I have only done some couples. Will post about characters I like/dislike later. :P

I think Leah and Dan are the most normal couple, because they're more oike any other parents. kids, problems, working things out and not breaking up over a tiny fight and acting all dramatic about it.

That's true. A lot (Well most actually) are prtrayed as couples that are always having a crisis of some sort or other, but that isn't what happens in real life. There are loads of couples that have a perfectly happy relationship and don't suffer any problems.

Then again, how boring would it be if ALL the couples were completely loved up ALL the time. lol.
