Yeah.. see I don’t think the Emily storyline was purely for ratings and I also don’t think we were supposed to cry for her, but if people did then that’s great if it touched them that way. Obviously Emily was gonna die so they had to have a death scene, I would have been pissed off if she didn’t…

There have been a few guest characters I think in the show that have entered and then died only a couple of weeks or a couple of months later…the way I perceived this storyline was the same as one of those, it wasn’t a huge or hyped up storyline, it was more background, which I found Emily’s storyline to be too I liked how private it was, and very real to life amongst mumma rose etc at the time.

If she was meant to be background, she should have only had scenes with Brad and maybe Rachel, and not become Sally's bestest friend of all her friends. Maybe it's just me, but if I had lost my husband to cancer, I wouldn't be too keen to get attatched to someone else who was dying as well.

I just find it hard to get too involved in this storyline. I'm not really warming to Emily because I know she won't be around for very long. Whilst we are meant to feel sorry for Brad and Emily, I can't help think that more people will see Emily as just something getting in the way of Sally and Brad getting together. The viewers obviously care more for Sally than Emily or Brad and care about her happiness more than Emily. So I can see how a lot of people would actually want Emily to die sooner rather than later to get her out of the way. The premise of the storyline is sad, but the way in which it has been written is just crap in my opinion. We were introduced to Brad, the nice, friendly single guy who instantly clicked with Sally. Now all of a sudden he's married to a woman who is dying. It's hard to warm to either of them really, Brad doesn't come across as being that nice or understanding and Emily is dull, the only interesting thing about her is the fact that she's dying. It doesn't exactly make for compelling viewing!

As the storyline goes on i am starting to feel sorry for Emily, but nothing like i did for Flynn.

But im still not feeling sorry for Brad and im still not liking him.

But these last couple of episodes with Emily getting worse and trying to hide it from Brad then getting upset when she has a nose-bleed,I am feeling sorry for her.

I quite like Brad; I can imagine reacting in exactly the same way he has in that situation. And although I like Emily as well, I find her reliance on Sally a little unrealistic, and I can't really put my finger on why. It just jarred with me today when

she asked Sally to stay while she told Brad the extent of her illness

.

I couldn't remember if that happened in the Five ep or Five Life.

I think when your going through that kinda situation you cling onto people who have been through a similar situation or known someone who has, it’s a weird comfortable thing, even if you don’t know them. However, it isn’t really fair on Sally, what can she say to a dieing woman that wants her friendship? Its just something Sally's gotta go through...

Am I the only one seeing it from a different angle? I don't see this as a Brad/Sally storyline... I see this as a Sally/Emily storyline. It seemed to be based around Emily finding someone strong enough to help and Sally laying the demons to rest.

Brad is just an afterthought.

There were definately one or two episodes where I felt that was case. Incidently they were the only episodes of the storyline that I liked. But in general I just didn't feel they put enough effort into Emily as a character. Her death could have been so much more moving.

Yeah I know, the death scene itself could have been done loads better - I have done it loads the last year, where an 'impact' scene has taken place and has just left me not fulfilled, and come up with a better (IMO)script and direction in just minutes... who knows why they seem to skimp on things at times, but say the scene Beth shouts at Amanda after the funeral, again it could have been done better IMO I loved the glares and the slight raising of Beth's voice, but it could have been made bigger, maybe a slap across the face after another snide remark or something... Just things like that, Emily's death scene, or Chloe's death...they could lift the bar a lot higher...

But this storyline came across to me as more private and 'real' - I feel like it focused on Brad, Emily and Sally equaly in there own ways.
