With regards to the UK catching up to Australia, does anyone know if there is anything in Five's contract that says that we have to be 'X' number of episodes behind Australia? Couldn't we just keep going until we were just a couple of episodes behind, or something, like New Zealand? And then take breaks at kinda the same time...although actually, I guess that viewing figures in the UK would be kinder lower in July/August time, when a lot of people here are on holiday, as opposed to wintertime, when the Australian break is.

I hope that makes sense!

Well i usually spend Xmas day with family too, but at some point in the day we all do our own thing, and that is why i am glad that Five are still showing Home and Away. Lets face it if i had to stick with my family for the WHOLE day i would go mad, but it is a shame that we don't get to see a Summer Bay Christmas episode on that day, i dont know may someday we will

I agree with what you've said there. Sure, you spend most of the day together. You open presents together, you have dinner together, you watch a bit of tv together, but when evening comes (Or 6 oclock to be precise) everyone's getting tired because of the excitement of the day and all you want to do is realx. I'll probably take my chocolates and disappear to watch it and then when it has finished, go back downstairs and chill with my family.

Taking the same breaks as Australia wouldn't hurt I guess.

The other option is to take it off whilst the Ashes are on and screen the special reports at 6pm.

I'd rather the break happened over Christmas though, as that means we're getting the episodes at roughly the same time and thus dates bear more resemblance to each other.

Do you think if they had long breaks in the UK like here it would confuse people? Like say the casual viewers or people that watch but don’t go on boards to discuss and find out what’s going on? I just know that when they have taken things off air over here and then all of a sudden they reappear, I either have lost interest and cant be bothered or am confused as to whether I've missed a lot or not... Know what I mean? Maybe it would really affect the ratings negatively as its not hugely popular is it?.

That's why Seven put the big cliffhangers in. And when it goes off for the Olympics they go all out and kill somebody. (The Olympic body count is currently 3 in 2 cliffhangers!)

The other thing they could do is make sure Five break at a prefixed episode, and Seven write a sizeable cliffhanger at that point also.

Yeah but Australia have always had it like that, since the beginning. What I mean is the UK isn’t used to that kinda thing with their usual soaps are they? And they've never had it like that with H&A, Most people have said they presumed it was on all ear round and was never aware of ‘seasons’, so people could get confused and presume its gone off-air again, like it did when it swapped channels - but by the time its on air again they’ve lost interest. They might just think; can’t be bothered with this show it seems like its on one min and not the next’. As ignorant as it might be. I’m not talking about the avid H&A fans; I'm talking about the majority of the viewers who are probably casual fans. I was just thinking that because it doesn’t get promotion, maybe if there was a lot of promotion for the show it would work.?!
