Ryan Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 This could be a stupid question but I was thinking about live shows like football and so on, what if Seven established a link to five's satellite or whatever they use and upload them to five so they can show it the same day OR a week delay? That way, no sending of tapes and all five has to do is to recieve the signal and edit the show as they see fit - if TV can be shown all over the world, what about this idea? Doable or un-doable? RTL showed episodes one episode ahead of Australia in 2000 due to a fortnight longer "summer" break for a couple of months so actually getting the episodes isn't the short term problem.
TabbyCool Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 If the UK carried on without taking a break, we'd get to the stage where we were ahead of filming! We'd have to take a break once there weren't actually any episodes left to show, they don't just magically appear out of nowhere!
Jack Holden Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 We're behind because of the gap we had when H&A moved from ITV to Five. Also, I think they need to leave a gap to allow the tapes or whatever to be sent over here from Australia. As annoying as it was having Home and Away off air for a year between 2000-2001, it actually worked out ok because FIVE havent need to take a single break from Home and Away in the last 5 years! However I think by the end of 2008 we will catch up so we will have to take a break. On ITV they were only 4 episodes behind Oz at one point during the early past of 2000 so I can see Five going up to a week behind (in order to keep the Friday cliffhangers on a Friday) and then just taking the same 6 week break as Oz at Christmas.

Probabaly in terms of when the UK audience wouldnt miss it as much as taking it off for six weeks in July/August for example would coincide with holidays etc. Maybe Neighbours have the right idea - taking it off for 2 weeks in the Summer and then for Bank Holidays, a week or so at Christmas - although they only have a 4 week break to cover while Home and Away has 6?
