Si-Co Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 Out of interest, how many of the characters/couples from the early years were given their own theme? There has been much talk of the Fletcher theme, Bobby's theme, and I'm aware of a 'Summer Bay' theme used in the pilot. I can remember a few peices of music which cropped up often but I'm not sure if they were attributed to particular characters. I recently watched Episode 681 and a piece of music was used throughout it in Ben and Carly scenes. Did they have their own theme?
-Andrew- Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 Some of these went on to be used for random scenes, but for a time, seemed exclusive to one character/ couple... With Sally/ Celia/ Donald/ Lance their 'theme' only seemed to play during emotional/ crying scenes. Bobby Emma Sophie Sophie/ David Sally Donald Lance (It's quite funny how he gets one of the most heartbreaking scores!) Alf/ Ailsa Steven/ Viv Steven/ Jennifer Grant/ Jane The Fletchers Ben/ Carly Pippa/ Michael Then there are the general sad scores which are still used quite a bit... Sad Score 1 (One of the best, imo) Sad Score 2

Bobby Carly Emma Sophie Sally Donald Lance Alf/ Ailsa Steven/ Viv Grant/ Jane The Fletchers Ben/ Carly may have one too, yes. With the exception of Sophie, all of these have been used as of 1991, so there may be a few more to come yet. Ben and Carly have their own theme which was used on their wedding day and went on to be used for important Ben/Carly scenes. It is later used for Bobby and Greg's wedding also. Pippa and Michael have also got their own theme which I quite like, it has been used quite a lot lately and I'm sure it is used on their wedding day as well. Another one to add to the list is Steven/Jennifer which is later used for Meg/Blake.
James Martin Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 Sad Score 2Is it just me or does Debra Lawrence's Pippa crying over Tom seem really odd? I've just always associated Tom with Vanessa Downing and Michael with Debra Lawrence. Even later on when Debra's come back to reprise Pippa it's never seemed right when she's mentioned Tom!

Previously I would have agreed with you but having been watching the Early Years consecutively and seeing Debra take over the role following Tom's death, it doesn't seem weird. They have made Tom's death such a huge part of Debra's Pippa. Pippa being a widow and dealing with losing a husband, has been a huge part of the character that Debra has created. Sometimes it seems like Tom is mentioned more now than when he was actually in the show!! The only weird thing in that clip is that awful photoshopped photo!!
James Martin Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 Well it wouldn't have been Photoshop back then, more glue and scissors, but it shows!
Si-Co Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Thanks Andrew and Beau for that info and links. There's another one I'm thinking of which sounded a little like Bobby's theme but in a major key, but it may be included above and I've just watched the wrong scenes in the clips! Can anyone remember if the instrumental version of the song Frank wrote in an early episode was used for Frank and Roo scenes? It was certainly used for later Frank and Bobby scenes.
alexx Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 I never get tired of Bobby's theme, so well composed. Andrew, Sad Score 1 is also right up there on top of my list of favourites.
