-ParaisGal- Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Chapter Eighteen Martha smiled at her fiancé “I’m glad you’re alright. I’m so relieved he didn’t kill you. I thought I’d lost you Jack and I can’t lose you. I can’t raise Aria and Callan by myself! I need your help.” She admitted. “Martha you’d go fine without my help. I know you could raise them very well, well enough to make me proud. You already have.” He pointed out. “That was with you’re and Beth’s help. I’ve already lost Beth I can’t lose you as well.” She told him firmly. “You’re not losing me. I have no intention of leaving you just yet.” He said with a smile at his fiancé. “That’s good because I have no intention of letting you leave. Your daughter and son need you Jack. Almost as much as I need you.” She said softly “Aria’s coming in soon by the way, you finally get to see her in a month and a half, nearly. I haven’t let her in to see you much; I felt it was a bit too much to ask a four year old to do. A baby, now that’s different but a four year old child, who knows its her father laying on that bed, now that’s just cruel, or so I felt. That’s why you probably didn’t hear her talk that much, if you could hear us at all. She’s ecstatic about seeing you but I’m making sure she’s ready for the surprise.” She told him, smiling at him. “I trust your judgement. When she’s ready you bring her in, I can’t wait to see my beautiful daughter.” He said “She reminds me of you, did you know that? Beautiful, sweet, and innocent. Perfect.” He said, smiling at Martha. “Using the Holden charm even when you’ve been in a coma for a month and a half? Impressive.” Martha smirked at him “You’ve really outdone yourself Jack.” She said, leaning back onto the bed beside him, and promptly slipping off the bed “Ouch.” She whispered, lying on the ground. Jack moved as quickly as he could, ignoring the pain erupting in his weakened body “Martha are you alright?” He asked, panicked. “I hit my head and I cut my head open.” She gasped, not moving off the ground and showing him the hand covered in blood, she was starting to feel faint and a little bit scared. She’d hit her head on Jack’s metal bedside table. Jack started pressing the buzzer calling for the nurse and in rushed Rachel, who immediately realised what had happened. “Mac you’ve got a pretty bad cut on your head.” She told her, helping a faint looking Martha to her feet “And you’re bleeding pretty heavily so we’ve got to get you checked out.” She said, helping Martha from the room. “I’m coming with you.” Jack’s words shot out of his mouth, as he struggled to get up. Rachel turned around quickly “No Jack, you’re not going to do yourself or Martha any good rushing out of your bed like that. We’ll keep you up to date with what’s going on.” She told him. ------------------------------------------ Jack was waiting for someone to tell him something. The blood had been cleaned off the floor and cabinet, and Martha had been gone for half an hour and he hadn’t heard anything. He was worried about her; he was frantic with worry to know what was going on with his fiancé. He saw a nurse heading into his room, his meds in hand “How’s Martha?” He asked quickly. “Dr. Armstrong is with her now, that’s all I’m allowed tell you I’m afraid.” Judy, the nurse, said. “I remember you. You were here when Martha was in premature labour. I’d like to see Julie please, Nurse Julie.” He stated clearly. “Unfortunately Mr Holden we can’t have everything in life that we want. So take your medication.” She said coldly, thrusting the pills and some water at him. “I’m not having them till I know how Martha is.” He snapped at her. “Will I have to force them down your throat Mr Holden?” She asked him “Or will you do as you’re told?” “I’m not taking them until I know how my fiancé is.” He snapped. “I really don’t feel like forcing these down your throat Mr Holden so if you’d do as you were told I would really appreciate it.” She said, sounding very annoyed “I’m not telling you anything in regards to Miss Mackenzie so I’d advise that you did as you were told and stopped causing trouble. Now settle down and take your tablets as told or I will sedate you and force them down your throat.” She snapped at him. “Sedate me then. I’ll sue you when I’m asking perfectly reasonable questions as I want to know how my fiancé’s health is. As in, what her condition is. Half an hour ago my fiancé fell and hit her head, and was lying on the ground not moving except for the fact that she was conscious. So you tell me right now how she is.” He demanded. “How do we know you didn’t push her?” She said sweetly “Temper tempter Jack.” She smirked. She was a nasty nurse and a lot of patients hated her, however she maintained good manner whilst around most of the staff and nobody suspected a thing except Rachel, who’d always disliked the nurse and she’d never known why. She was a rude little idiot who thought she was the best thing since sliced bread. “I did not push my fiancé. She fell, and you seem to be the only one who doubts that story.” He snapped. “Take the pills.” She snapped, storming out of the room. -------------------------------------- Yet another half an hour later Jack didn’t know anything. He had decided to get up and find her when Rachel came rushing in, and saw him half out of bed. “Jack get back into bed.” She gently scolded him, putting him back into the bed “Now, Martha hit her head pretty hard, so we’re keeping her in overnight. Aria’s here, I’m taking her home with me but could you mind her until I leave? Thanks. Now, Martha has concussion and she lost a surprisingly decent amount of blood, because she split her head behind a major artery, which burst in the pressure of the hit.” She said, looking at him sympathetically “She’s on an oxygen mask to be safe, and her fluids are being kept up and she’s also receiving some blood.” She told him “Keep your head up she’ll be fine.” She assured him “I’m trying to move her into your room, she’s still unconscious, she lost consciousness, but she should wake up soon.” She told him, and then left the room. Soon Martha’s bed was wheeled into his room and he desperately tried to see her but Judy had closed the blinds, she really hated him. Jack gritted his teeth once Judy had left the room and he grabbed his drip pole. He put his legs over the side of the bed, determined to see Martha. He gripped the pole tightly and stood up, but he came crashing down almost immediately. His legs hadn’t supported his weight for a long time and to ask them to suddenly support him unquestioningly was rather stupid. He groaned as he heard running feet and saw Rachel come in. “Jack you were trying to see her weren’t you?” Rachel asked him gently “I’m not mad.” She assured him “I understand and I didn’t think the blinds would be closed.” She said, opening the blinds and pulling the wheelchair over “Since you’re so determined to see her you may see her.” She said, helping him into the wheelchair. She wheeled him over to the bed “I’ll leave you here.” She said softly, leaving the room and closing the door behind her. Jack looked at his sleeping fiancé, and the large cut on the left side of her head. So close to her temple it was scary, she probably would’ve died if she’d hit her head there. He picked up her hand, stroking it lovingly “Come on Martha.” He said softly. She still wasn’t waking up, and she’d been out of it for a while apparently. He sighed, rubbing her hand softly, till he heard a groan come from her. He pressed the buzzer, and Rachel came in and saw her stirring. “Good, I knew you could wake her up. Come on Martha, wake up for me. Open your eyes, Martha please open your eyes. Look at me, Jack’s here.” She said “Jack’s holding your left hand, can you feel that? Nod if you can.” She said clearly to her. Jack watched as Martha gave a weak nod, then winced, slowly putting her hand to her head as she felt pain sear through her head “I’m here baby.” He said softly, holding her hand tightly and securely, letting her know she was safe. Martha groggily opened her eyes. She felt pain on the left side of her head; she looked at Jack, a slight frown creasing her face “Shouldn’t you be in bed?” She murmured, trying to get comfortable. “I couldn’t stay away beautiful.” He whispered to her. “He wouldn’t, he tried getting out of bed and came crashing down so I realised I had to let him see you, otherwise we’d have to tie him to the bed.” Rachel said to her friend. Martha looked at Jack “That was rather stupid Jack. Don’t do it again.” She muttered. “I will do it again if I can’t see you. Your gunna have to stop me Martha, meaning your gunna have to get better.” He told her, trying to hide his smile. “I will.” She muttered before falling asleep again. Rachel watched her “When she wakes up again she should be more with it. She lost a reasonable amount of blood, Jack, so she may take a while. I’ll take Aria home tonight, Tony can take Callan.” She said. -------------------------- It was the next morning and Martha had just woken up. She spotted Jack in his wheelchair beside her bed “Hey.” She muttered, tired. “Hey. Are you feeling better?” He asked her, concerned. “Much better, thanks.” She said, grateful “And no more jumping out of bed without Rachel you here?” She ordered him. “Yes ma’am.” He saluted her. “Where’s Aria, and Callan?” She asked, wondering where her children were. “Rachel took Aria home with her last night, and Callan’s with dad.” Jack explained. “Let’s bring Aria in then. She knows about me now, right?” She asked. “Yup, dad’s bringing her in soon. At least you don’t have to wear a gown.” He indicated to the pajama top and pants she wore. “Lucky.” She muttered. “I hear them, here she comes.” Jack said, turning toward the door.
