Finally H&A needs a black man. How can a town have so many psychos, natural disasters, crashes, cancer patients and unplanned pregnancies yet not one person in town isn't white???

Are you implying that the things listed above all happen as a result of somebody black? That's a terrible outlook and has nothing to do with the topic title so in future keep that kind of opinion to yourself.

I think the poster meant that considering the amount of pyschos there are in Summer Bay, why not anyone of ethnic origin, to "balance things out". However, since reading your post, Katie, I hope that's the right interpretation...

It was the plus racism bit in the title that caused me too think but I have just realised that it can be interpreted the other way too, I may have just jumped to conclusions because of something Kee Kee wrote in a different thread, so I'm sorry if I did

Rachel beck was Mark's singing partner on It Takes Two, and his mate. And she's having her first baby with her husband.

Thanks Tess, I hadn't heard anything about him becoming a dad, thought I'd missed some major news!

On my ethnic comment - I did NOT blame all the psycho attacks on black people. Where did you get that idea from? What I am saying is that in Summer Bay, there are not any characters of a different ethnic, save for an occassional extra every 3 weeks. But the town is filled with natural disasters, cancer scares, psychos trying to kill people with bombs, guns and fires... It just isn't right. It is almost racist.

I feel some realism needs to be added. Yes it is a small town but you never see a small town filled with just white folk. You would think especially being so close to Sydney you would see people who aren't white. Neghbours is bad at this too, but have gotten better with the addition of Katya. With shows like Passions and The Young and the Restless, you have black families among white ones, and none of them are stereotyped. It would be nice if the next family to come along is a family of English speaking Japanese people, instead of every family being white all the time.

I hope you understand that I am SUPPORTING other ethnics in my comments, not blaming past storylines on them.

I think it is perfectly realistic that a small seaside town wouldn't have people of different ethnic origins. People from abroad tend to move to the big cities, there are plenty of places in England (such as villages and small towns) where you just don't see people who are not white. There is far more diversity in big cities, but the smaller places tend not to attract immigrants and such. Historically, black people were brought to predominantly white countries as slaves and were far more likely to work in big cities than smaller towns and villages, because that's where the richer people tended to live. Other people who move abroad tend to move for better job opportunities and things like that, which are in far greater abundance in big cities than in the middle of nowhere.

I live in a city in the North East of England (Newcastle), it's not a huge city and has never had a very big black community. There are a lot of Asian people living here, but the number of black residents (permanent residents, not just students) is actually quite small compared with places like Leeds, Manchester or London. So if it's like this in a city, I can imagine there would be even less black people in a small village or seaside town where there are few job opportunites to attract new people.

Actually, you do - it isn't so unusual. Especially in such a small community. And there have been people in the show who weren't white (for example, Charlotte and the Aboriginal guy who was in it not so long ago). Personally I don't think there needs to be a black character just because bad things happen to black people too - anyone with any sense would realise that already!

PS. Tess, I think Charlotte was half Phillipino.
