Was she put up for adoption straight away... did Roo stay with the father when she went to live in America?... Is Macca just the son of Martha's adoptive parents then?? Hope you can help.

I dont think Roo and Brett stay together after Martha was born, and im pretty sure Martha was put up for adoption straight away, i didnt watch in 1988-89 because i was like 0-1yrs old then. But yeh And yeh, Macca is Martha's adopted parents' son

Lisa S Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Roo and Brett Macklin had a brief fling when Roo moved to the city for a while to go to boarding school. When Roo came back to Summer Bay she got back together with Frank who she had a previous relationship with before going to the city. She told everybody that the baby was Frank's and everybody believed this including Frank. I can't remember if Brett knew at that stage that Roo was pregnant. Frank and Roo got engaged and a huge wedding was planned. At the church during the wedding ceremony the guilt of the lie got too much for Roo and she blurted out the truth about Brett being the baby's father. Frank took off in his car in a rage and got into a bad accident where he almost died. The whole town including Alf turned against Roo. Roo ended up having Martha adopted out. The adoption didn't happen straightaway and I think Roo planned to be a single mum. From memory Brett went a bit crazy and kidnapped Martha as he wanted to keep her. He later brought Martha back when he couldn't cope with the baby or Martha got sick (I can't remember). Anyway, Brett and Roo decided it was best to put Martha up for adoption. Before the baby was born Brett's father planned for the baby to be an heir to the family empire but he lost interest when the baby turned out to be a girl and he didn't want to know about it. He wanted a son to carry out the family tradition by running the business. He was pretty pissed off when they had a daughter who in his mind was not much use to him. The character of Roo was really bitchy and she did a lot of nasty things to people. There was the lie about who was the father of her baby, she sent threatening letters to Ailsa because she did not approve of her relationship with Alf and she was very manipulative. Roo ended up getting back with Frank a couple of years later when Frank and Bobby split up. Frank and Roo moved to America where they later got married. To answer Madlyaddicted's question, Roo and Brett never got together after Martha was born.
