summer bay high Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 I used to watch all the soaps when i was younger and although i watched them eastenders and corrie always seemed really boring for some reason!! Now, i only have time for H&A, neighbours and Hollyoaks! Hollyoaks coz its bout young people and there issues. I think Neighbours is getting absolutly redikulous but i will still watch it coz it has me in stitches most days - especially recently but H&A has absolutly everything you could want in a soap!! And on the topic of people hating it - i know loads of people who hate it but the few that i convinced to watch it once started to watch regularly!! My fiance absolutly slated it before we moved in together but since i have been forcing him to watch it every night he is getting just as addicted as me and he now watches it when i am not at home!! LOL!!
Furzie Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 ^^Your writing is very hard to make out! - You make it bigger or change the font! HAA has really changed over the years! Neighbours hey day was the 80's when it used to be good, now its just crap! Now HAA is the best, while in the 80's early 90's Neighbours was the best and HAA wasnt in my opinion. Funny how things change! Dont think Neighbours can pull that back. The UK viewers should wise up and stop watching Neighbours! Then it would cease production, as it does no were near as well in its own country than HAA - it is just made for the UK market!

I know many people with disagree with you there (about H&A in the Early years) - wasnt the classic episodes pulled from Aussie screens a few years ago becuase they were gettting feeback at 7 telling the shows producers it was a lot better back then?! I just see it now and then, as totally different shows! But yeah I cant imagine Neighbours getting as popular as it has been in the past, I think its down to the shows direction, it always had elements of comedy, but now it just seems way OTT on the comedy mark, it just reminds me of a Nic kids show with the music and stuff. Thing is, whilst that isn’t really popular over here because we just cringe, the UK seem to love that – and you’ll probably find most of the people who watch it do so for the comedy and light-hearted aspect.
Guevara01 Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 ^^^ I think you're right about Neighbours Alexx. My parents watch it because it's lighthearted and "funny". I think it's clichéd. My mum says she doesn't watch H&A because it's on at the same time as the local news, she likes it though. I make her watch it and memorise facts from it, just so i can talk to someone in my house about it! xxx

I think that the classic episodes, by that I mean the early years, 88 - 93, were not as good as Neighbours back then in that era, it was only from around 10 or 11 years ago a started watch religiously when I though it was good. Now its miles ahead of its rival programme - or would you call that a rival now? lol I dont know what it is with the Brits and Neighbours - i personally cant bear to watch the programme!

The way I see it Home And Away is premiership and Neighbours is the conference league. I use to watch it mid 90’s till about 4 years ago and I only watched HAA every now and again. But now I’m so addicted to HAA it’s scary, also when I read the TV mags Neighbours always seems to repeat the same storyline! How does that make a great programme?. I just wish people would give HAA a fair go. Most of my friends watch Neighbours; they won’t listen to me when I say how good HAA is. I’m just glad I have found this forum coz I was going crazy not being able to talk about it
Jess Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I don't really get what the British obsession is with Neighbours either...or why it's even still on the air, considering it rates so poorly in Australia. Don't get me wrong, there are some likeable characters (I'm a big Karl/Susan 'shipper), but it doesn't compare to Home and Away...possibly it being on Five and not one of the more 'mainstream' channels, like the BBC, doesn't help it much...and also Neighbours has had quite a few cast members in it who have gone on to become international stars - Kylie, Natalie Imbruglia, Jason Donovan (if you can call him a "celebrity") - so maybe people see Home and Away as the "poorer relative"...I don't know...
Furzie Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Its because its on five here! Thats why! Plus we missed a whole years worth of episodes during it changing channels - people lost interest over the year......
~Angel~ Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 Me and My friend were playing this game where we have to rate celeb boys. It was out of 10 and the ranks were Personality and Looks, I chose Paul O'Brien to rate first and My friend gave him a 8 for personality and a 7 for his looks She's starting to warm towards him It was going to happen sooner or later anyway
victim-ofthenight Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 I'll be blunt and straight to the point in my opinion i watch about 8 episodes of neighbours a year stopped watching it regularly in 1997 it is a load of immature rubbish and a waste of screentime, despite whatever channel it may be on..........Home and away i have watched continously since day 1 it has had a constant flow of major storylines shocks dramas and every aspect of a good soap, tears, happiness, shocks, drama, comedy. if i asked anyone i know which of the 2 they prefer some would say neither but most would say if they had to choose H&a..... in my personal opinion h&a is just as much an adult soap as a teenagers im 24 and male i dont give a rats backside if people say im sad id rather watch h&a anyday than what half of them watch...
