Home and Away Haters

People in the UK seem to be of the general opinion that Home & Away is a kids' soap and that adults who watch it are a bit sad. Funnily enough though, many of the people who think this are actually Neighbours fans. I don't know if it's because Home & Away is on Five, which generally has a bit of a crap reputation, or if it's some bizarre other reason, but there are so many people who think Home & Away is rubbish when they've never even watched it! It's much better than Neighbours in my opinion, I stopped watching Neighbours a couple of years ago because I got to the stage where I found every single character to be immensely irritating!

I agree 100 per cent. Neighbours fans have given it this reputation, I think that H&A gets this reputation as Five is more of a young person's channel, whereas BBC1 is more mainstream. However, I think that Neighbours, it's actors and storylines are much more immature and sad compared to H&A . H&A is much more sophisticated IMO than Neighbours. Neighbours fans simply give people who don't watch either soap the impression that Neighbours is more upmarket than H&A because it is on BBC1 (THE COMPLETELY WRONG IDEA IMO.) This prejeudice would not exist if H&A was back on ITV.

Home and Away is quite popular here in Ireland but obviously there are people who don't like it also. I think ten years ago Home and Away was a teen soap but I believe it has grown up with its viewers. Obviously there are still the teen storylines but there is a lot more adult material these days. I would much rather H&A over Eastenders any day. As well as a stunning backdrop it gets the balance of drama and comedy just right. Neighbours is a pathetic excuse of a TV show.

in other soaps it's just people cheating on their partners and thats how the relationships blossom(sometiimes in H&A They do) but in home and away they wait until the person's single then they find a character to suit them.

I never usually bother with Soaps but i make an exception for Home and Away, its great and i prefer Tasha and the gang to the likes of Vera Duckworth and Peggy Mitchel... I also used to love Days Of Our Lives and The Bold and The Beautiful when they used to air in the past... Nicole Walker and Hope Brady were the best  its a shame Channel five axed them they should have aired later in the day then they would have stayed on instead of those crappy movies they air during the afternoon :D

Home and Away is the only soap I watch! I dont like any of the rest! They are all so boring. I agree Neighbours is just a load of rubbish! If HAA were still on ITV, it would give Emmerdale a challenge for the ratings! Moving to Five wasn't a good thing for the show!

I agree. I was watching some clips of Neighbours in the 1989/90 era, it was fantastic then, and back in 1989 and 1990, I loved Neighbours and H&A equally. But now, Neighbours is an awful, badly written show which I now hate, while H&A is much better IMO.

I went off H&A for quite a few years (late 90's to early 00's) but a friend of mine made me watch it one day (she's very persuasive :P) and I was hooked again. That was around the time of Sarah/Felix storyline. Now a couple years on she hasn't been watching it and I've been addicted to my daily dose. Funny how things change.
