Okaaaaay, moving on ... *sidesteps the slash*

Question: In OotP Harry can see the Thestrals because he saw Cedric die, yes? Well, originally didn't Harry see his mother die? So why couldn't he see the Thestrals before this?

Random question I know, but it's been annoying me for a while. Any help would be great. :)

I think (don't quote me on this one, though) that when Lily was killed, all one could see was the flash of light from the Adava Kedava curse, so Harry didn't directly 'see' the murder. Ah, yes, a technicality, I know, but J.K. does seem to rely on them a lot. There was a similar get-out clause with the basilisk in CoS.

But Cedric was killed with the same spell, so I don't think that's it. I think it's just that Harry doesn't actually remember seeing his mother die because he was too young to understand what was happening, so he hadn't really experience death first hand until he saw Cedric die.

Yeah I would agree with that, sounds like a good explanation

A Teletext topic has said that JKR has been hinting at perhaps writing an 8th book, although not for another 10 years or so. She said that she has had "weak moments" when she's thought, "Yeah, OK" to another book.

If anyone watched the JK documentary earlier this evening, they did ask her about writing another book. She was talking about what happens to all the characters in the future (who they marry, kids names etc) and the interviewer said 'sounds like there's enough for another book'? And she sort of shook her head despairingly, as if the temptation to write one is very great! But she said she felt it was the time to stop. Maybe it will happen in years to come, who knows?

I've heard that she wants to write a sort of encyclopedia of the wizarding world.

What would be cool, but will almost certainly never be written: Hogwarts: TNG. It would be much like Degrassi TNG: a student from the original now a teacher, children of the original characters at the school.

After writing that, I decided that in I'm going to pitch this as a TV series in 2017

Not if he wasn't directly watching the murder. Or maybe it doesn't work with 15 month old babies.

Thanks for that. I've been thinking since I posted that that maybe since Harry was so young when it happened it doesn't count. Because when he was growing up with the Dursley's he was told they died in a car crash and he believed that - so there was no memory of his mother and father at all, or their deaths. So yeah, that would make sense.

I also heard about the 8th book but I don't know how JKR would go about writing something like that. The encyclopedia sounds exciting though. I saw the family tree of the future generation Weasleys and got very excited! George/Angelina ... awwww! Baby Fred
