I can’t stop thinking of it, replaying that night over and over in my head. Why didn’t I stop her? I should have saved her. I saw what was going on, I knew what she was going through yet I didn’t stop it.

The guilt is more than I’ve ever felt in my entire life, it’s there, hanging over me, constantly. Like a shadow that never leaves my side. In a way I don’t want it to go away. I want it to hang over me, to be my constant reminder of what I could have prevented, Mattie couldn’t be saved, why should I live my life as if nothing has happened?
