Old scene with new music - Meg's death.

I used this scene to illustrate how soulless and unemotional the current underscore can be. This piece taken from Flynn's death shows how it would have ruined Meg's eerie silent death, and therefore how it actually ruined Flynn's - when it could have been so much better. The promo at the end also illustrates how they can completely destroy emotional endings.

New scenes with old music

Maybe these are a tad overdramatic by today's standards, but as Joey-lee pointed out, if they revamped the old music using new scoring styles (like they did with Bobby's theme in ep4000) then there's no reason why they shouldn't work. I think they fit in quite well in these 3 examples. Especially in Leah and Dan's case where I think it really adds to the scene in a good way.

New scenes with old sad music

As above but different music and scenes.

Those are really cool videos, the music sounds really well placed.

Was amazed to see a bit of the closing credits - what version are these? Different from the UK version, that's for sure with the two figures playing with the large ball - have you got a clip of the credits in full?

I think the music goes really well, especially the music during Dan and Leah scene – I remember that was played when Stephanie dies, It was played a lot in 96/97 I think. I like that idea too, Joey-Lee they should definitely re-vamp this piece.

Also I loved seeing that freeze frame with Zoe – I loved it how H&A used to do that, I wish they would again, either that or the format they used from 2000-2003, it makes it more dramatic and gives the audience time to take in what has just happened in the last scene. The Meg and Blake clip was definitely ruined by the promo interrupting, without the freeze frame.

I put this incidental piece from the 90’s – I just reckon it makes what could be a blah scene between Leah and Dan, a lot more interesting and engaging. It’s kinda typical of what H&A of the past would do with these kinda scenes if you think about it, like make the relationships between people seem more serious or intense, can’t pinpoint it – but it was good!

(maybe this should be moved to another section, its not really about Neighbours anymore hey)

That music works so well! It reeks of classic H&A too, I miss those piano melodies. It really does help to make that Dan and Leah scene stand out and be memorable rather than be the type of scene you forget as soon as it's over.

I don't actually remember that particular piece. What scene was it originally from? Was it used a lot?

Wow, the new scenes work so much better with the older music - it really felt like 'good old Home and Away!'

Take note Dan B!

I used to have the episode on video but lost them, I uploaded them a few years ago, but for some reason I can’t get the vision just the sound (lucky) because I think it’s really nice music and really reminds me of the show the way I used to like it.

I can’t remember who it was, but I think Adam was looking through photos when I heard it the first time, but it was a different version or a different key. This scene was with Roxy when she had cancer I think, though I’m not sure.

I actually think the older music makes the show classier – although I know the current style suits the show as it is at present, they could throw in some old ones re-mastered as Joey-lee said in the other thread.

If I think about it, I know its just music, but I think it would really help me to enjoy the show a lot more if it had the older style incidental pieces, and as its less character driven maybe you would sub-consciously engage with the character more, as the older style seems to have character in itself.

Like you said, the older pieces had character. Now it's just a case of "insert standard sad music here". "insert standard dramatic music here". There is nothing personal, reflective or thought provoking about it anymore.

Alex the second file it says it's not found.

I'll also try and do some other clips if I can find scene's without dialogue. My father has done audio-post production with incidental music in the past, so he’s taught me a thing or two about when to draw out the best in a what could be a rather bland scene, its really interesting how it changes the dynamics.

Come to think about it, I think that first piece is from 1995, so it can’t be Roxy can it? Wish I could get the visual back, or have other scene from the episode to hear voices, I can make out Ailsa at the end say ‘hello Love’ but then it cuts off.
