alexx Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Anyone else noticed Neighbours kinda copying H&A’s style of incidental music (no where near as good though) – and the stalker themed storylines?
Lauz Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Didn't notice the music but the stalker thing is such a rip-off. The only difference is that they didn't finish their storyline stupidly
alexx Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 I noticed the music more when the stalker stuff started - they used the strings and the creepy sounds and effects like H&A do. I think the promos were trying to go down the same route as 7 also...maybe not so miss-leading.?!
-Chris- Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Ch7 bend it as much as possible, to make it as dramatic as possible, 10 dont seem to be anywhere near as bad, but they still do dramatise all the promos.
Ross Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 There have definitely been similarities in storylines. H&A had the stalker last year, and this year Neighbours have Robert. H&a had plane crash last year and later last year, Neighbours had theirs. Also similar is the fact that the H&A plane crash was caused by the stalker, and the Neighbours one was caused by Robert.
*dW* Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Neighbours plane crash was so much better then the home and away one.
Ross Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Neighbours plane crash was so much better then the home and away one. Yeh, definitely have to agree there. Far more dramatic to watch because you actually saw on board, and lives were actually lost which tends to happen in air accidents
claire@easypeasy.com Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Anyone else noticed Neighbours kinda copying H&A’s style of incidental music (no where near as good though) – and the stalker themed storylines? I don't think they're copying Home & Away's style of underscore at all. Peter Dodds commissioned several other composers last year to start writing underscore for the show as well as the long standing Musical Director Chris Pettifer. If anything, the new material harks back to the early Neighbours underscore that we heard during the 1980's and early 90's, from composers such as Bruce Rowland, Garry Hardman, Brian Beamish, Peter Benson, Guy Gross, jazz musician Paul Grabowsky and former Music Editor Warren Pearson. All of these composers have worked on many other television series and films, some even wrote for Home & Away in the early years. Tom Andrews the current Music Editor has also written some score for the 2006 episodes. The new underscore is written by some of Melbourne's best composers including Niko Schauble, Greg Mills and Vince Deltito and Anthony Dale (aka The Lotus Music Group) I don't think it's copying at all. It's just mixing things up a bit by having some more modern material coupled with the hark back to the older underscore. Network Ten produce the previews for Neighbours. As a commercial network they obviously want as many people to tune in as possible. It's just business sense really. However, I have noticed that recently they have started to tone them down a bit more now, and not make them so OTT. I also don't think you can accuse either show of copying. There are only a certain number of stories you can tell in that timeslot in a "G" rated drama. Neighbours have done stalker storylines before, so you could argue that they were copying themselves! However, I think that would be rather pedantic to do so. Don't forget that Ricardo Pellizzeri who is currently Grundy's Head of Drama, also worked on Home & Away as an Executive Producer and Director, so he may be bringing similar ideas into the pot. I wouldn't call it copying though. I would call it copying. They do a plane crash , caused by the stalker, a bomb caused by the stalker, and also like H&A , one of the characters (Katya) is dating the stalker without realising what they are doing. Kim was dating Zoe, and didn't realise what she was like. H&A also did the plane crash (which was better, the neighbours plane crash was unrealistic) and the bomb. The reason I think that the Neighbours plane crash was unrealistic is because you didn't see them crash, just everyone in the water. Neighbours seems to copy lots of H&A storylines, and IMO doesn't do them as well.
ter06 Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 H&A had a big reunion for the 4000th episode last year only for Neighbours to have a big reunion for their birthday a few weeks later - H&A's was much better though!!
-Karen- Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 The whole Bree 'baby swapping' storyline in Neighbours is a rip off of the Sutherland/DeGroot saga from a few years ago.
