emmasi Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Fine. It's not important. I'm having a semi-confrontational day today. I still think I'm right, but I'm not in the frame of mind to explain clearly. So...yeah, whatever. Ya'll win.
Oxidizer Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 I get what you mean Emsi. Strange 'coincidence' huh? Anyway, I'm not really bothered too much 'bout Neighbours - especially as Robert's a Stalker wannabe/rip-off (plane crash springs to mind, oh and don't get me started on the identity thing ).
c120701 Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 It wouldn't bother me because Dylan was in H&A before there was a Dylan in Neighbours. Equally, H&A had a Skye (Vinnie's cousin I think?) before Neighbours. Technically Sky was in Neighbours before we met Vinnie's cousin Skye in home and away, she just returned in 2003 grown up and played by a new actress. It honestly wouldn't bother me if Home and Away brought back Skye or Dylan as they are perfectly entitled to use those names. Neighbours had an Adam, a Sarah and a Ben, and that didn't bother me, just as it doesn't bother me that Home and Away has a Beth or a Dan or had a Scott
claire_louise Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 But people in the 60's were called Nora, Ida and Edie, names you wouldn't call anyone nowadays. Plus, the names are probably are being recycled, just over a time that it's not noticable. Look at Neighbours, they had to name people after Fish and look at some of the recent additions to the show. What you said is true Ryan, but you're kind of contradicting yourself. They shouldn't ever have to resort to Apples and Horatios, because names go in and out of fashion all the time. So in a few years time there may well be babies named Nora and Ida (in fact I know a girl called Ida who is in her twenties) and it will be ok to use those sorts of names again. In fact, not so long ago in Hollyoaks there was a baby named Arthur. As long as they don't name a new character after a classic one from the past (eg. Hilda in Corrie) they should be able to get away with it.
Ross Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Doesn't bother me at all when there are name cross overs - there are bound to be matching ones now and again. Generally, both H&A and Neighbours are good at coming up with their own unique names, Neigbours with Bree, Janelle, Janae, Summer etc, and Home and Away with Ric, Martha, Cassie etc. Both soaps have introduced characters with the same names as characters in the other soap recently. Neighbours introduced Kim and Robert way after Kim and Robbie were brought into H&A. At the same time though, Home and Away introduced Rachel to the series months after Rachel in Neighbours first appeared.
