I think the problem would be by now we'd be celebrating things like the wedding of Horatio and Angelique, and the upcoming birth of their daughter, Apples.

Wasn't that a sad episode, the death of Tiger?

I'm not sure. Corrie has been going 40 years and still manages to come up with relatively normal names.

But people in the 60's were called Nora, Ida and Edie, names you wouldn't call anyone nowadays. Plus, the names are probably are being recycled, just over a time that it's not noticable.

Look at Neighbours, they had to name people after Fish and look at some of the recent additions to the show.

There aren't that many new additions to the show per year. I doubt that they would run out of 'normal' names.

Yes, as no-one anywhere on earth apart from Summer Bay could ever be called Kim or Rob at the same time. As you say, the character of Robert Robinson was created long before that of Robert Hunter, and although Kim Hyde was on Home and Away first, Neighbours did have a recurring guest star in 1998 called Kim. It's a bit unreasonable to say that a soap cannot name their characters something just because another soap already has a character of that name. If they did go along those lines, Sally Fletcher wouldn't be called Sally, Tom Fletcher wouldn't have been called Tom, and numerous other characters would have totally different names.

There is one thing I do think they might have copied them on though (apart from storylines, but that works both ways), the new Erinsborough High uniform looks remarkably like the original Summer Bay High uniform, which could perhaps be down to their Executive Producer, Riccardo Pellizzeri who directed the pilot and many of the early episodes of Home and Away. Back to names though.

I guess its not to bad if people associated with the character are all gone. There is noone related to Jack Wilson on the show apart from Sally and she never really seems to mention her foster siblings. But when Scott Hunter was brought on to the show, Kane was still there and there was always a chance that he would mention his brother.

The whole Selina getting called Sal while Sally was on the show was annoying. Its a good idea if a character has a nickname to distinguish them from another character but surely Sally would have been the most logical contender to get nicknamed Sal.

I also noticed the whole Kit and Kitty thing on one of the other discussion topics where someone was talking about Kitty and called her Kit (talk about confusing)

Selina's name was abbreviated to Sel, not Sal, it's just that Sally got called Sal as well, so when someone mentioned Sel or Sal you were never quite sure who they were talking about as they sound so similar, especially with the Aussie accent.

I'm wondering how you'd feel if Home and Away introduced a character named Skye, and then coincidentally reintroduced Dylan Russell to the series.

It wouldn't bother me because Dylan was in H&A before there was a Dylan in Neighbours. Equally, H&A had a Skye (Vinnie's cousin I think?) before Neighbours.
