Pierced Musie Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Could they both be short for the same name though? Cassandra maybe? I didn't think Casey was short for anything.
Mez83 Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Not sure ste. Casey isn't usually short for anything. Or at least, I've never heard of it being short for anything.
c120701 Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Scott Hunter and Kane's brother Scott Phillips. Then when Scott Phillips came back they were both in it at the same time which made it really confusing Which should have taught the writers a lesson, but it didn't. How do you mean exactly, Ste? Are you saying they shouldn't re-use the same first names for a certain length of time? They would never know for sure if at some point a past character may be written back in (such as Scott Phillips). I think it's more realistic when two characters have the same first name, even if they are in the show at the same time. Two of my friends are called Richard, three or four are called Mark - I just avoid confusion when talking to people by saying 'Richard from work', 'Mark from Gateshead', etc. I even know a married couple (man and woman) who are both called Leigh (spelt the same way). So their married names are identical. When Brookside made Jackie Corkhill a regular character, they already had a regular character called Jackie Dixon. Jackie C had been referred to (and probably seen on screen as a guest) long before Jackie D arrived. The writers had Jackie D decide to spell her name Jacqui (this was mentioned on-air), which prevented confusion in episode synposes. It wasn't as much of a problem in Brookside though, as whenever they were mentioned it was "our Jackie" or "your Jacqui", so you always knew who people meant anyway. The Scott Phillips/Scott Hunter thing was only really an issue because of the links between the Sutherlands and both Scotts.
claire_louise Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Pretty sure Casey (pronounced Kay-see) is a proper name, not an abbreviation. Well, it is for someone I know anyway! Cassie is short for Cassandra though.
vikkysmile Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 It used to confuse me when they said Sel fo Selina and Sal for Sally.
c120701 Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 It used to confuse me when they said Sel fo Selina and Sal for Sally. Yeah me too.
ste Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 That used to confuse me too as they sound so similar. Also sometimes when they say "Mr Stewart" it sounds like Mrs. I wouldn't mind characters being on the show at the same time with the same name, like in Brookside. I actually thought that was quite realistic! What I don't like is a new character like Tom Nash coming along who was a bit of a rubbish character and being given the same name as the original main character of the show. It just seems to belittle the original, somehow. Same with Jack Holden/Jack Wilson. I know it's not realistic that all characters should have new names but this is TV and characters are remembered by their names. When you say the name Ailsa there's only one person you think of. But when you say Scott you could be thinking of at least 3 characters. A name should be individual to a character. I mean if they brought in a bland pointless female and called her Marilyn or Angel I'd be
MarMar Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 There was a baby in today's Norwegian episode called Chloe.
