SfanS Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Following THIS ^^^^ tutorial I managed to do something! It's very bad, but it;s a start. That was really helpful, Emily, coz I had NO idea before! Here was mine: There were different versions of it, but I like that one best.
.Cat. Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 How to make your own polaroids. Requested by Eli Roenning. 1. Open your picture, and select all (Ctrl + A). Creat a new layer. Go to Edit> Stroke. A pop up will appear. Make sure you have these settings: Width- 9 or 10px Color- *white* Location: 'Center' is ticked. Click ok. It should look something like this: 2. Select the Rectangular marquee tool (or just press 'M' on your keyboard) and create a smallish rectangle near the bottom. Fill it will white. This is what it should look like: 3. Merge everything! Duplicate your new base, right click the layer, and go to 'Blending options' (This step will only look good if your polaroid is on another picture). Right click on the words 'Drop shadow'. Enter in these settings: Blend mode- Multiply Opacity- 31 Angle- 148 ('Global light' is ticked) Distance- 5 Spread- 0 Size- 2 Click ok. This step was only to make it look a bit more realistic. You can skip it if you want. 4. It looks a little bland, so I select the burn tool. Make sure you have these settings in the toolbar: Brush size: I used a soft 65px brush. Range: Highlights Exposure: 50 Then go over the corners of the polaroids with the burn tool, to give it a more oldish effect. 5. Last step! I zoomed in once, and using a very small brush, I erased some bits out of the corner. Result: (I placed it on the background, so you could see it better).
Eli Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Thank you! I'll try it out later tonight!
Eli Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I tried, but there was a few things I didn't understand (I'm a bit slow): 3. Merge everything! Duplicate your new base, right click the layer, and go to 'Blending options' (This step will only look good if your polaroid is on another picture). Right click on the words 'Drop shadow'. And what's a burn tool? I don't think I have that... I have something called Dodgetool that has the same settings as the ones you listed but it didn't give the effect you described...
Spidy Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 ^^ Right click on the Dodge Tool and the second one is the Burn Tool. You arn't getting the same effect because that tool does something different to the burn tool. Once you have merged all your layers you will end up with one layer. This is now your new base. Right click on it and duplicate it. As for it will only look good if you have it on another picture I am not sure what Cat meant but try it with and without see which way you like it better, that is my only suggestion sorry couldnt be more help with that. Hope that was a little bit helpful. EDIT: I forgot to thank Cat for the tut! Thanks I have been wondering how to make them for a while. I will try it out sometime. Another really helpful tut. Thanks Cat.
Eli Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 That helped a lot! I had no idea I had a burn tool, I think I remember having it but then I probably clicked it away without knowing. The duplicate base thing was what I thought it was, but I just didn't see why I had to do it as it didn't give any effect. Thanks!
.Cat. Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Sorry,I should of explained it better. As for the 'This step will only look good if your polaroid is on another picture' what I meant was the drop shadow would look more visable if on a background, e.g. that sig I made.
Eli Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I tried it, and this was my result: I changed a few things though. I used the magic wand tool to select the white frame, then I chose "Layer via copy" and then I chose "drop shadow" on that layer so I got some shadow on the actual picture. I also merged the text layer and blurred the text slightly, and I blurred round the edge of the actualt picture (very little, jut to so the edge wasn't going to be too sharp) I also tried to use the Hillary Duff tutorial, but it didn't turn out as well as I hoped, here's the result I got: Thanks
.Cat. Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Those are very good results! For the Hilary Duff tut, I suggest trying other gradients than the one I posted...?
