princess_in_pink Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 Requested by KatieroxNZ. [Keep in mind, this is my first tutorial so it may not be perfect. ] How to make this: 1) Open image. Duplicate it twice. Set the first duplicate to Soft Light 100 & the second to Screen 100. [Depending on you're image mess with the opacity till it suits your image.] 2) New Fill Layer - #010621 - Exclusion 100. 3) New Adjustment Layer - Color Balance: Midtones: +12, +8, -1 Shadows: +11, +12, +11 Highlights: -21, +15, +19 4) New Adjustment Layer - Selective Coloring: Reds: -100, +20, +28, -33 Yellows: -100, +10, +40, -19 Neutrals: +18, -9, -23, -4 5) New Adjustment Layer - Brightness/Contrast: Brightness: +15 Contrast: +14 6) New Adjustment Layer - Selective Coloring: Reds: -49, +15, +7, -19 Yellows: +18, +30, +100, -74 Neutrals: -15, -15, -22, +28 [Tip:Play around with the colors so it suits your icon the best.] 7) <--Take this Texture and set it to Screen 100. 8) <-- Take this & set it to Multiply 100. Move it around and place it where it suits your Icon. 9) <-- Now take this Texture and set it to Multiply 100. Again move it around to fit your Icon. 10) Add text to your Icon. [i done this before I added anymore textures, because once I add the colored textures it gave a nice effect on top of the text.] 11) <-- Take this gradient and set it to Lighten 100. 12) <-- Now take this gradient and again, set it to Lighten 100. 13) <-- Grab this texture and set it to Screen 100. 14) <-- Take this texture and set it to Screen 100. 15) Layer - Flatten Image. 16) Filter - Sharpen - Sharpen [Optional] & now you're done! Step 3, 4, 5 & 6 play around with it so it suits your image. You can even miss one or two steps if it doesn't suit your image. People with other program which doesn't have Selective Coloring [GIMP etc] Play around with the Color layers, change the blending mode and screw with the opacity to suite your Icon! I'd love to see results!

Kris10na Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Barbara and Zetti wanted a tutorial for this avatars: The colouring isn’t identical, but this is pretty close I think: Colouring: 1) Take your picture/screencap, duplicate and set to screen. 2) Duplicate your base again, bring it to the top and set to soft light. 3) New selective colors layer: Reds: -100, -10, +24, -15 Yellows: -100, +10, -16, 0 Neutrals: +20, -5, -27, +7 4) New selective colors layer: Reds: -90, -6, +24, 0 Yellows: -100, +10, -24, +4 Neutrals: +32, -11, -9, -6, This psd: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KU2ANTJD includes all the layers for the frame and colors around the picture. You have to crop your picture/screencap to 73 x 128 for it to fit into the frame or you can make your own frame. Then you can add text, brushes or whatever you like!
