tessa305 Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 i was just wondering if anyone in australia (or anywhere else) might know why joel left the show. Was it his decision to leave? i havent come across any interviews with him about flynns final storyline or his reasons for leaving and usually there are some with departing actors. Also does anyone know what he is doing at the moment? i presume he left the cast before christmas so must be doing something new by now (although acting is a tough discipline). thanks for any info you might be able to give! tess
I Love Mark Furze Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 He was contracted to the show for 3 years, Joel started the same day as Kip Gamblin, so they left together. I think he chose to leave, but i'm not 100% sure. He was at the Logies last month, sitting with the cast, next to Kate Ritchie and her Rugby player boyfriend, Chris Walker. I know before he started in Home and Away he had a guest role in All Saints, filmed in the same studio. I'm not sure what he's doing now, maybe just having a break and doing auditions here and there, he was in it a long time and his last few months would have been stressing to film. I never read any interviews with him either, i don't even know if he does many.

It was such a shock when I first heard of the storyline (Just under a year ago) because I hadn't heard of any plans for Joel to leave. I was really upset!
loveangelmusicbaby Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Yes I think that added to the shock and surprise...not reading anything about Joel leaving. I think a character's / cast exit is better that way..when it is a surprise.
leaglelou Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I've actually been thinking about this also. In the early years there was always an article in TV week showing last pictures of departing cast members, now they hardly do that any more e.g. Noah, Flynn, Dani, Rhys ect.
katya Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 think he chose to leave, but i'm not 100% sure. I asked this question a while ago on the forum and I was told he chose to leave as well. It's strange that no one seems to know for sure though.
Ryan Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I think all signs point to him choosing to leave Would Seven want to have to kill of Sally's husband after just three years of marraige? The answer is no.
ste Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I always thought he was written out I'm not saying I didn't like Flynn, or Joel, and I'm not saying they didn't make a great realistic couple. But Sally is a better character without him.
Tulip Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Yeah, Flynn's one of the central characters in the shows, popular with viewers, Joel's a good actor; I don't think they'd voluntarily let him go.
